Sarah Palin To Resign As Governor Of Alaska »

Posted By TimALoftis 4 months, 2 weeks ago in Political News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning.

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pionner Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said.

There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and most, if not all, of her cabinet.

    Hmmm...a run for the White House...

    Well, I don't think she's gonna make it...

    Well. There are two reasons she'd resign:
    1. A run for the White House (I say GO FOR IT! It'd be good for Obama to win again and more Democrats or indies to get into office).

    2. There is some secret about her personal or public life that is so offensive, so horrific, that hasn't come out yet but is near bubbling to the surface.

    Either way, more entertainment's on the way.

    Hmm....I guess she has given up on being a Governor.....some thing is in the works for sure because I don't see her stepping out of the lime light unless there is going to be a breaking scandal...only time will tell

    So instead of just not running for Gov again next year, she resigns this year to prepare for a bid for the WH in nearly 4 yrs! That doesn't make sense, think about it.. Being governor of a state for 4 yrs would be good to tout as experience, walking off and quitting won't be very good to use as experience unless she wants to say she can balance the budget because she keeps house and raises children! lol

    Now, all that said.. She's getting the hell out of Dodge, she's been given an ultimatum because she's got some serious skeletons and resigning is probably the only way she's going to avoid going to prison! Not rocket science!

      She is doing what she feels to be the right thing for her State and for the Country, honest and noble as usual Sarah will do what she feels is best rather than think of herself. Wake up America, you are all getting fooled by our new president and you are all going to be sorry!!!

      It is my guess that she may be getting her self ready for a Senate run in 2010. Resigning her position would not necessarily help her (might even hurt) if her intent was only to run for President in 2012. If she runs and wins the senate seat, look for her to possibly run for President in 2016 assuming that Obama is re-elected in 2012.

      Matt Lewis, conservative writer for AOL's PoliticsDaily also seems to be questioning Gov. Palin's decision.

      I believe it's a good tactical move for her. W/all the rabid icehole liberals attacking her she probably needs to withdraw and regroup. She agrees to run for VP along McCain and after that she becomes a target for the liberals. Now as a private citizen she can defend herself like a citizen. This isn't the end for her. She's a lot more intelligent than that moron we have in office. I'm sure she'll be back.

      Did you notice- McCain's people have been saying some nasty things about her this week -- perhaps they're distancing themselves from some scandal.

      Maybe she is finally going to come after both lame a** political parties in 2012. Neither party stands for freedom and liberty they only stand for those they choose to champion. The group that gets them the most in and out of office. I believe she has seen the true corruption of the political process and those who think themselves masters of the people.

      While a few office-holders have resigned positions to
      run for something bigger,
      - I can't think of anyone who did it years
      before the election.

      You resign in the last few months;
      it is a way of showing all your chips are on the table.

      I wish her well, within the limits of an attitude
      that opposes her every belief;
      I hope it is not family troubles.

      Maybe one of them payed her off to come back and stir up some of that trouble she can do, why she could do anything for revenge, and she is the type of person to do just that. there is something going on and we are left out in the cold. I dont think it is family troubles I think it got something to do with our govrnment and if she can be able to get in then aye! you know what she can do and I dont like the thought of it. she has paid back all the money they have ask her to, but her just resigning bluntly like that something is up.

        I watched the video of Palin's announcement several times...lots of scattered disjointed ramblings. Conservative pundits on the various cable TV shows seem to all be scratching their heads on this one.

        with a 7 million dollar advance for her book who do you think has the last laugh. As a republican I honestly think she should take the money and go quietly into the night. She has no chance of having an effective campaign in 2012, the last 6 moths she should have gone back to Alaska and gain some knowledge on foreign policy and other issues which she clearly has not done. I think the only way the republican party can have a chance on 2012 is to run a last minute fresh face, not giving the left and the media time to trash them before they are even in the race. Palin is damaged goods politically and should enjoy life in Alaska with her new found wealth.

          I find a lot of the comments here vile. Not all, but quite a few. Sad thing is, I am not surprised.

          First things first, I thought she was a bad choice for VP, when someone told me that thought it was a brilliant move, I told them it made McCain a 40 state loser. She clearly wasn't qualified yet. Shame on her for accepting that challenge, but knowing ones limits is common in human nature.

          That being said, what I do respect, is she started from. She didn't get to her position by being a moron, she also didn't get to her position, by being loaded with money. She was a person who started in her local community and worked her way up. I just don't know how you don't respect that.

          I have a colleague who lives up in Alaska, he didn't vote for her, but really came to respect what she did and how she governed. I know this is a survey of one, but it means more coming from someone who has somewhat of an inside perspective.

          I can feel the negs coming, but I just wish people would stop trying to tear everyone down. I know its not just the Democrats, and it not just in politics. It seems anytime anyone is somewhat successful, there is a group trying to tear that person down.

              Oh and Thom, how she governed? she's been in for 2.5 years, she was nominated 12 months ago for VP, she didn't do squat. She taxed BP and exxon and paid off her constituents. Period, great leadership.

              She is doing the right thing. She has to travel to the lower 48 to make herself revelant in 2012 but it will be to no avail, its going to be Mitt. He's the only sane one left.
