    Tilting at Windmill Jobs
The 'stimulus' promised a jobless peak of 8%; it's now 9.5%.

About the best we can say about yesterday's June jobs report is that employment is usually a lagging economic indicator. At least we hope it is, because the loss of 467,000 jobs for the month is one more sign that the economy still hasn't hit bottom despite months of epic fiscal and monetary reflation.

The report is in many ways even uglier than the headline numbers. Average hours worked per week dropped to 33, the lowest level in at least 40 years. This means that millions of full-time workers are being downgraded to part-time, as businesses slash labor costs to remain above water. Because people are working less, wages have fallen by 0.3% this year. Factories are operating at only 65% capacity, while the overall jobless rate hit 9.5%. Throw in discouraged workers who want full-time work, and the labor underutilization rate climbed to 16.5%.

You mean with Obama still trying to help a country recover from the economic policies of the Bush era and collapse of the economy.. why is unemployment at 9.5%?

I guess Bush's destruction of the country was as complete as the bankruptcy and destruction of all the companies he ran into the ground. Too bad the House of Saud can't bankroll a new America like they bankrolled Bushie's new companies all the time.

You are "interpreting" what Gibbs said, NOT quoting him.

What Gibbs said was that "we should BEGIN to judge now" whether or not the stimulus package is working.

That is NOT saying that "Obama IS responsible for the economy".

Go back to English class to make sure you comprehend a simple sentence ... and don't call me "hot shot" ...

Isn't it funny how republicans credit reagan for the job Bill Clinton did with the economy, but 5 months into his administration, it's all Obamas fault. Bush did worse than nothing.

A post from a blog so vile that it perfectly represents the 27% GOPers isn't proof of anything.

Here is a lesson in logic I explained to my sister in slightly different form. If Gibbs calls a dogs tail a leg then how many legs does a dog have? Most republicans would answer 5. The correct answer is 4 because what Gibbs says does not change reality. Just because some lying republican pundit said something in no way makes it real. Actually it is more the opposite. If I right wing BS artist mentions it assume it is false because thats how to play the odds.

pc, let's take a trip down memory lane...Picture it: The "surge" for Bush's illegal war in Iraq. Now, were cons watching and counting as each grain of sand in the hour glass dropped when it came to giving the "surge" time to work? Exactly... Ya weren't... We heard cons blathering and barking "waaaaaaaaaaaahhh...No fair! All the troops aren't THERE yet so it ain't a real surge yet" and "noooooo...we need to wait until every single soldier is in Iraq and unpacked or whatever...before we know for sure that this is working...you liberals are so meeeeeeean!" In fact, I seem to remember you people supported endless war and non-stop funneling of billions of dollars to be spent to keep Americans in Iraq to die so you could have cheap gas and tax cuts. Only a fraction of the money for the stimulus has been distributed so far so you right wing weasels really need to STHU. First, you're bitching that he's spending money too fast (before he's even spent it) and if he actually DID spend the money quickly, you'd be bitching about THAT or waiting for the first opportunity to jump on "the government" for mismanaging our tax dollars. You got months and months and months while we waited for the "surge" to work so don't you f*ckups dare start crying when your farm animal Bush caused this crap pile up and left it behind. GET SERIOUS, cons. ;-(

Klarissa, if you silly pinhead cons have convinced yourselves that Americans have forgotten the death and destruction *you filthy rodents* have caused (and continue to cause) by having voted for war monger Bush and torturer Cheney, you're braindead. You're in a complete vegetative state, lady.
