George Will Calls Sarah Palin a Quitter »
Posted By capj71 4 months ago in NewsOn ABC’s This Week program today, conservative columnist George Will had some harsh criticism for Sarah Palin’s decision to resign from her position as Alaska governor on Friday. Will said, “Still, she made a contract with them to serve out her term. And she said, in her own words, she now is a quitter.”

As pointed out in one commentary, she used a sports metaphor (from basketball) of "passing the ball to win the game."
Reply
But another sports metaphor, a general one says "winners never quit, and quitters never win."
Is she passing the ball, or throwing in the towel? -

Where in the hell was Democratic concern for her commitment to Alaska when you Democrats were piling up one baseless ethics complaint after another, wasting valuable Alaskan resources in the millions of dollars?
Reply
And now you have the temerity to question HER commitment? -

George Will chickened out when the correspondents from the New York times went to court because of Bush and the spys of the NSA. What happened? Did someone threaten him...see a man is making a chicken again...when there is no such thing....just a hen and a rooster.

Sorry, but I just don't see the big deal about her resigning, or "quitting".

While I didn't agree with her platform, she was the smarter of the two, between her and McCain.
However, if there are some type of charges that follow, then I will have no mercy on her whatsoever.-

I really hate to get all "aunt louisie" before 8 am but I got to. Sorry.

If McCain is so stupid what does that make Obama? Obama clowned on McCain when he said the fundamentals of the economy are strong only to change his mind and quote McCain six months later. At the very least it says that Obama is slower than McCain.

Let's face it folks, it is about money. From what I know, her family is of modest means. Over the last 9 months she has racked up $500,000 in legal bills due to frivolous ethics complaints. That means in the next 18 months she could have another $1.5 million.

How would you like to have this kind future facing you. Hell, I would quit too so I wouldn't compromise my families future.-

Then she never should've run for a. governor b. VP in the first place if she was so concerned about her family's future.

oldslowjim makes a good point. The Palin's legal bills cannot be addressed by her Governor's salary.
Reply
She's very ... VERY effective as a fund raiser for the GOP. She has a very specific message that resonates with those invested in the Culture War.
She could also make a lot of money as a guest commenter for FOX.
Of course, the other side of this mountain is the 'so called' Iceberg Scandal that is brewing. This is an almost identical ethics faux pas as Senator Ted Stevens' - in which he was alleged to have steered contracts to a builder in exchange for the builder providing free construction to his home.
I would hate to see that this would be the reason she is resigning - because she's preparing for that embarrassment.
There is just too much of this 'pay to play' thing going on in Government.

One thing I didn't address was the need to provide for future support for her youngest child. I suspect, knowing how conservative she is, that Palin would not expect the "government" to support her Down's child completely. This means doing the best you can to provide some kind of trust fund for that child. $500,000 or $1 mil would be a good start on that. That may very well be the "family" reason for resigning. Better than paying lawyers the money!

For once, I agree with George Will. I think Palin has a difficult time dealing with criticism, whether it is deserved or not. She tends to react to every negative comment about her or her family. In fact, her family has a lot to be critical about; so has she. She already took off for months from her job when she campaigned for VP--and she kept the reins of power of governor even though she was not in Alaska and not actually governing. Whoever the new governor of Alaska may be, I think he'll do a better job than Sarah Palin. Maybe he'll actually stay home and govern Alaska--which is what Alaskan voters deserved from Palin.

Funny that you don't mention Obama, Biden, or McCain as to taking off for months during the presidential campaign and abandoning their commitment to "governing". Or is it only mothers that are required to not run for national office while holding another political office?

I don't know what her role will be in American politics, but she will continue to have one. When she is the main topic on the Sunday news shows because she resigned her office, she is a player.

While I like Sarah and think she got a raw deal from McCain's group, the press and the public, I don't believe she would be qualified to be President in the near future.-

A kid stuck in a well can be the main topic of the Sunday news show.

Incidentally, on Friday, MSNBC was covering the story for ONE HOUR AND FIFTY FIVE MINUTES before FoxNes or CNN even mentioned it.
Then both FoxNews and CNN immediately returned to more hours about Michael Jackson.

Whatever Sarah is up to, it is quite clear that she is a force to be dealt with. She gives a fifteen minute backyard impromptu press conference in Alaska and knocks Michael Jackson, Sanford, Health Care and the recession out of the news. The left is in a sweat wondering what her next move is and looking to launch a preemptive strike on any front. The right can't figure it out either and wonder who among them are potential winners and losers, depending on what Sarah does.

Consider this: She is attacked as the Wasila Hillbilly, gov of a a small population state, (Hillbilly Clinton from Hope, Arkansas), her kids have funny names (Barack's kids are named Sasha and Malika), She quit the governorship (Obama and Biden quit the Senate),her kid got pregnant (Edwards impregnated his staffer), She is not really representative of small town values and America, ( Ivy Leaguers are?) She is hypocritical (see above.) -

I only wish you would quit as well. As a writer you are useless and I don't think you have any other talents so I guess quitting is not an option. Not reading your drivel is
something the rest of us can do. Are you perhaps jealous that this woman has more balls than you and the majority of your political cronies? When my girlfriends and I wonder where all the real men have gone, we can at least be comforted in the fact that we have Sarah Palin out there saying what needs to be said. I guess it really does take a woman to do what was once a man's job. -

THANK GOD SHE DIDN'T BECOME VICE PRESIDENT. McCAIN WOULD BE LOOKING FOR A NEW VP RIGHT NOW. AND TO THINK ABOUT IT...THANK GOD McCAIN DIDN'T BECOME PRESIDENT, HAVING PICKED A VP LIKE PALIN. I WONDER WHAT OTHER SCREWED UP CHOICES HE WOULD HAVE MADE.

Broken promises
Reply
She promised to serve as Governor of Alaska, that suffered while she was off playing VP prospect... Pretty much abandoning her state for the most part during the campaign just a year after being elected...
Now 2 1/2 years into her term with another year and a half left and shes quitting. I might given her some credibility had she said "I'm not running for a second term, but darn it all if I dont do my best for the time I have left"... Instead she decided she is tired of playing Governor and is simply walking out on the people of Alaska, the very people that elected her because they believed in her. It is them she is letting down.
A year on the campaign trail and a year and a half left on her term as she leaves means she basically only served 18 months as the governor of Alaska, thats not even half of her elected term.
If she cant stand the rigors of governing one state, how can we expect her to govern 50 states and various territorys?
If she cant keep a promise to the people of the state that elected her to office, how can we expect her to keep her promise to the rest of the country? So a year or two into office as president and gosh darn it things aren't going well she is just going to up and quit and walk out of that too?
The fact she pulled this on a state level has stymied her politcal career. Anytime she runs for any position in the future this will be brought up showing she is unfit to lead the nation when the going gets tough.
I'm amazed so many people are still willing to stand blindly behind her while she is walking away without a care about her word to those very same people. And that makes me even more sad...
