Illegal Immigration Costs California Over Ten Billion Annually

State's "cheap labor" costs average household $1,183 a year
In hosting America's largest population of illegal immigrants, California bears a huge cost to provide basic human services for this fast growing, low-income segment of its population. A new study from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) examines the costs of education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens, and concludes that the costs to Californians is $10.5 billion per year.
Among the key finding of the report are that the state's already struggling K-12 education system spends approximately $7.7 billion a year to school the children of illegal aliens who now constitute 15 percent of the student body. Another $1.4 billion of the taxpayers' money goes toward providing health care to illegal aliens and their families, the same amount that is spent incarcerating illegal aliens criminals.
"California's addiction to 'cheap' illegal alien labor is bankrupting the state and posing enormous burdens on the state's shrinking middle class tax base," stated Dan Stein, President of FAIR. "Most Californians, who have seen their taxes increase while public services deteriorate, already know the impact that mass illegal immigration is having on their communities, but even they may be shocked when they learn just how much of a drain illegal immigration has become."

California: Welfare Capital of the U.S. (Updated)

More evidence of California's continuing downhill slide can be found in the state's pathetic welfare statistics:
1. The percentage of residents on welfare in the Golden State is now more than triple that of the rest of the U.S. If it reflected the rest of the country, California would have 800,000 fewer people receiving welfare.
2. While caseloads in the rest of the U.S. have dropped over 30% in the past five years, California’s has gone up about 6%.
3. As a result, though it has only about 12% of the total U.S. population, California’s share of the welfare caseload has risen from 22% in 2002 to over 30%.
4. There are more welfare recipients per family in California, and that number has crept upward in the past couple of years, perhaps indicating that California welfare mothers are bearing more children that those in the rest of the U.S.

Dumb bitch you are contradicting yourself. The reason commercial properties are not taxed at value is prop 13. There are 2 problems with California. Prop 13 and the fact that republicans can shut down the state out of spite if they can hold just a third of the vote. Republicans are not the majority and never will be in California because they do not have the interests of the state in mind. Like W they will cut off the nose to spite the face.-

Klarissa has been a member of long standing and I personally don't think I've EVER heard her insult anyone.
her arguments are like a house of cards ... so you don't need to resort to name calling to counter them.

Yeah I shouldn't be calling people names but I have been under extreme stress recently and have been lashing out at anyone who crosses me. Sorry Klarissa, my bad. I will try to stick to the topics. Nothing personal I am just having some serious issues and am very angry at everything right now and its not your fault so I am sorry for calling you names. Peace be with you.

The main reason for prop 13 and the reason not to change it was for home owners proporty taxes. it was ment to keep them at the purchace value until sold that way the state couldn't say ya you bought it at $100,000 but we think its worth $200,000 so thats what we are taxing it at, (and for you not old enough to remember, thats exactly what the state was doing).
