My greatest fear was that we would end up with a health plan like this one. If we are ever to have nationwide health care, it must be non profit insurance with govt. regulations and oversight or it won't work.

Health care. This isn't about "health care," and it's irritating as heck that the issue is being couched under that heading. This is about insurance. Insurance that will pay for health care.
OK, so why should people be forced to have insurance? I say they shouldn't. But then, they have to agree not to go to emergency rooms, and they have to agree not to have children. Why? Because it harms others economically when they have to pay for others medical care through higher premiums and higher medical costs, that's why. And those exorbitant costs (and rising) are pushing the middle class out of the ability to afford insurance for their families.
Of course this doesn't touch on the competition that will arise for medical services by allowing for profit insurers to continue. They'll pay higher fees, push out the 'alternative' of government run insurance, and we'll be no better off than we are now. Another subject, I suppose, for another time.
