Did Rep. King comments cross the line? While I agree with some of the media aspects of King's comments we must all remember that in the end Jackson was acquitted of those charges. We may not agree with jury's verdict, but that was the verdict.

Speaking for myself, I have no problem celebrating Michael Jackson and what he brought us as a entertainer.
May he RIP-

Agreed. If I had to vet every entertainer for their private lives before I could celebrate their artistic merits, I would have a small music collection. In America we are innocent until proven guilty. Whatever allegations were made against Michael, he has never been convicted of anything. I do believe Michael was profoundly disturbed in some way. Fame and stardom often carry a price and his behavior, to put it mildly, was eccentric. However, I feel that this guy King is just trying to exploit this situation for a cheap political shot. Its sleazy.

If he had said that he did not believe we should honor Michael, that is one thing, but saying we should honor the troops instead. That is just plain strange. If I follow his reasoning, he is saying that anytime someone dies who is not worthy of our esteem, we should take this opportunity to remember the troops. Why not remember the troops every day? Why not honor the troops by bringing them home? Why not honor the troops by not using them in a frivolous or usurious way? Why not honor the troops by not exploiting their service for political gain?-

Hear hear!! A great post frctm5. Balanced, lucid and astute.

No matter what some might, euphemistically term 'human frailties' on the part of MJ, this is not the forum to politicize the untimely passing of a great performer to advance ones own agenda.
Shame on this man.

OJ was acquitted as well even though the evidence against him was overwhelming. Our jury system is no where near perfect and mistakes can be made. Only Jackson himself knows 100% if he did it or not, but this cloud will hang over his name forever. He was a great artist musically, but his actions with young boys would have gotten any other person arrested along time ago. Should we ignore that just because he was a star?

Hmmm..
Aren't you forgetting the young boys with whom he did or didn't do certain things?
When all is said and done - regardless of the flawed US justice system - the evidence of, at the very least, "inappropriate" behaviour was overwhelming.

If Pete King wants to honor the troops he could start by telling them the truth about the war and bringing them home.
Reply
What does he think of the lieing war mongers that sent over 4000 troops to their deaths? Maybe he could sponsor legislation to hold the Bush regime responsible for war crimes. That would be a great way to honor the troops. By the time Jackson's funeral is over perhaps he will have the bill submitted. That way we can honor Jackson and still honor the troops. -

He's absolutely right. And maybe if he was a democrat or independent he'd have honored them by increasing VA funding, increasing pay (instead of paying Blackwater ops 150k+ or KBR drivers 150k+ to deliver tomatos while troops making maybe 25k protected them and took the major risks), increasing benefits, et cetera. THAT would be honoring the troops. Neither side of the aisle has done enough. -

In viewing the Youtube clip, Mr. King comments came across a little mean spirited to say the least. He could have easily made his point without going in the direction that he so freely chose to go into - all while trying to wrap himself in the 4th of July flag made the video even more appalling to watch.

While I am not a great fan of MJ - I'm less of one as far as Rep King is concerned - he is nothing but a panderer of negative thinking - he is a Repugnant in an area that has become overwhelming Democratic in the last few years, precisely because of the perverted view of reality opportunistic politicians like him have been spewing.

Long Island was a bastion of Republicanism at one time - now through corruption & scandal all that is left are anochronisms like him, ranting to their supporters who are drooling on their shirts -

Death seems to make it so people can forgive the sins of the sinner who died. When Nixon died, it was as if he had become a saint for a while, to the point where Carter put down his hammer and nails and started trying to change the world as an X-President. So, if you think about it, the post-mortem praise of Nixon got us into the situation we now have with North Korea, and, emboldened Islamic terrorists.

Not likely. I hardly knew of Elvis until he died, then, BOOM! He seems to become like the new Jesus. It didn't matter that he died on the toilet reading a book about the Shroud of Turin, the world couldn't get enough of Elvis, so, I'm expecting this oddity will be treated like Lady Di was treated in England. And, if you remember, there wasn't much to Lady Di either.

Just one more opportunity for a politician to preach in front of another choir. We can both honor one of the greatest entertainers to ever grace an American stage AND honor the troops who are doing their duty for this country. It is not an either/or situation. There are many others who died the same day. We honor the service and the love, not the sins of the individual.

Artistically, MJ transported us into another dimension, as few artists in history have been able to do. The vigilance of servicemen everywhere protect our cherished freedoms. Somewhere, at this very moment, someone is in mortal pain, some unknown soldier is guarding some desolate outpost, and someone is feeling relief and joy from watching an MJ video. In the mental world of images, there is no subject vs. object: we are what we think.
God bless us all, for we have all suffered a loss of something beautiful. -

I respect the man's music but not the man and his behavior. After all the cases of inappropriate contact with children, even if there was no conviction (money can buy you a great defense), any reasonable person would conclude that where there's smoke there might be a fire, too.

Not being a fan of Michael Jackson, I'm personally sick of the unending coverage. He was weird to the point of psychosis, a probable pedophile and it amazes me people feel a few songs and dance steps overshadow the negatives about the man. Please bury him and shut up about it!!!!
