Here are the facts- a history of the self destruction of the GOP.
Nixon southern strategy- In the 50s and 60s the Democratic party adapted a civil rights position which didn't sit well with racists. The Republican stated strategy was to court them away from the Democrats by opposing civil rights. They claimed segregation was a state's "right" and the Federal government had no authority to challenge them.

Dominionists were very close to controlling all three branches of the federal government from which they could impose their narrow interpretation of scripture on the rest of society. People so close to full political power are not going to go away. The American people need to maintain vigilance and understand the history of how dominionists came to political power. And we need to embrace democracy with a passion -- for it was voter apathy that allowed leaders like Pat Robertson to get so many dominionists elected to Congress in the first place.

have a look at how they came to power-

The GOP has only one principle, make the rich richer. They sell that to the evangelical teliban home schooled thugs through totalitarian daddy politics, emulating Saudi Arabia.

The right wing terrorist think tanks recruit the best and brightest propaganda writers to sell the racists and ignorant thugs of the red states slogans like "family values" (meaning racist evangelical superstition and daddy knows best women have no rights to the cracker inbred thugs of the red states)

Gullible hatemongers will believe anything that reinforces their family model of Totalitarian Daddy, since their evangelical christianity is based on a violent jelous God who will torture to death anyone who doesn't follow the path of obediance to the virtous billionaires. The rich are virtuous, the working poor are lazy and immoral.

What ever slogans repugs spew, you can bet they are practicing the exact thing they are blaming others for. The true conservatives who own all there is to own, want to conserve their wealth and power. So they pay faux noise and the right wing media they own and operate to brainwash the racist ignorant sister humping morons to vote for them.

It's nice to see this kind of story. If Mainstream Media would discuss this type of thing ... the electorate would be better informed voters.

Every political party evolves over time.

Democrats: In the 60's and early 70's, the Democratic Party was all about wiping out poverty as a product of 'The Great Society'.

In the 90's, Bill Clinton helped to create 'Work-Fair' ... limiting access to Welfare.

Republicans: In the 60's, Barry Goldwater was the standard bearer of the Republicans ... but analysis of his voting record reveals him to be slightly Left of Center were he living today. That's mostly due to the Social Legislation that Revised Republicans have glommed onto as part of their Culture War.

Republicans in the 60's were all about keeping Government OUT of people's private lives (women's reproductive rights) ... and ADAMANT for separation of church and state.

      .

Also ... look at the way Presidents have managed government ...

Also ... look at the way Presidents have managed government

In the graph ... you can see how Reagan produced RECORD Deficits ... you can see how Clinton produced a surplus ... and how George W. Bush literally BROKE our government.
        .
One might say ... based upon the past 30 odd years ... Republicans have become incompetent at managing government ... and Democrats have become the better managers.

the fringe element of the gop has taken over. no political party, large or small can be effective in gaining office when the fringe has the only "voice" and seems to represent the party.

i'm hoping the gop stays in disarray for a good long time, but that doesn't mean we can take our eyes off the dems...they've been known to abuse power as well, and have their own fringe freaks to worry about.

It would be very naive to think the Dems will be in power forever. The GOP will be back (2010 it looks like), so don't break your spindly little arms patting yourselves on the back.
