I'm glad it's over. I live less than 20 miles from Gaffney, SC, where all the killings took place and about 30 miles from Gastonia, NC, where it all came to an end this morning. I can tell you that this whole region has been on edge for the past week since the killing spree began. Most towns here are small and for the most part pretty safe and innocent...not anymore. This really shook up that feeling of safety. I hope we can get it back now that he's dead, but often once that innocence is lost it's pretty hard to get it back.

Welcome to the Carolinas. One thing that likely would not have happened in Cali is that the local sheriff urged citizens to arm themselves. The local Wal-Mart in Gaffney literally sold out of ammo. Doubtful there is an area of the country with higher gun ownership to begin with. It's this crazy Southern gun mentality. You can only shoot one at a time but you have to own at least three and have workable ammo for at least ten.

This is generally a peaceful area. Most of the shootings are inter-family disputes. Billy Bob shoots his daddy because they got drunk and started arguing. You have to realize alot of these folks relatives walked out of the mountains and for some it wasn't that long ago. Inbreeding still effects the genetic lines. You will know them when you see them.
The good part is that we have beautiful scenery and easy access to the beaches and mountains.
