What can you say about a public official who ridicules those who would take the "quitter's way out" -- as she faces reporters to announce that she's quitting? A governor who claims that "the worthless, easy path" would be to serve out the remaining 18 months of her term? An ambitious politician who says that "life is too short" to worry about, you know, boring things such as responsibility or duty? -

The reasons she gave for stepping down are not just contrived or implausible but literally nonsensical. She can most effectively serve the people of Alaska by ceasing to exercise the powers of chief executive? She worries that as a lame duck she would somehow be compelled to waste taxpayer money on useless junkets? In her "Don't Cry For Me, Alaska" news conference announcing her departure, the folksy non sequiturs -- "Only dead fish go with the flow" -- were like nuggets of Cartesian logic amid a tub of mush.-

It is endlessly amusing that there appear to be a fairly large group of Americans who can make sense out of her nonsense. What does that say about the way these people have educated themselves (including Mrs. Palin)? We cannot accept such mediocrity in our elected officials. Fine for ordinary citizens to walk around in such a state but we are talking about "leaders". Odd that Mrs. Palin seems to have the look and allure of a leader with no other accompanying skills. Her briefing came across more like a PTA announcement than anything meriting national attention. And as always she had to drag the kids into the fray.

Stupidity, hypocrisy, revisionism. It isn't hard to see why Rush Limbaugh sees her as the ideal candidate for his drooling masses.-

"Most candidates, most public officials get to look into a camera and say, 'you better leave your hands off my kids,'" she said. "Well I haven't been able to say that. And that double standard that's been applied, that's been a little bit frustrating."
Reply
Quote from Fox News article. Amazing hypocrisy. She gives the press conference the other day and who is front and center...the kids! She is so illogical that it is frustrating that she isn't called out more, not less. There is no double standard. Keep the kids in the house when you are politicing. She paraded them from St. Paul all the way to the return to Wasilla and beyond. The double standard is yours Sarah.
This whole victim act is now her campaign. She's just independent, innocent, little Sarah, the homemaker. Talk about a load of "bull cr-p" as she called the stories about her in the media. This woman is dangerous. Dangerous to the future of this country. Even her presence in a race will dramatically create the level of hatred. Let's see her run a campaign without solely focusing negatively on her opponent. Try selling yourself Sarah, instead of spending all of your time running down others and playing the victim. Ask yourself perhaps once, WWJD? You are a disgrace to your Christian faith with your negativity. I see nothing in Jesus' word that advocates her position as a victim or a hatemonger.-

OK, let me see if I understand this...the woman who just recently wanted to be the second highest elected official in the nation unexpectedly quit her position as the highest elected official of a state, and they're blaming the liberals for picking on her??
OMG, LOL...can you imagine the UPROAR if a Democratic governor quit because everyone was being "mean" to him/her?
Now, my challenge to all the conservatives on this site is simply this: Deny that you would be having an absolute FIELD DAY if the situations were reversed. Deny that you would be calling the Democratic governor a coward, a wimp, a wussy...every yellow-bellied name in the book.
And then, explain why you're not saying the same about her?
Thanks. 8)-

Ms. Palin is an awesome woman with alot of courage. She has been unfairly raked over the coals in a fashion that I havn't seen in my day. I am not saying she is Presidential material or not, just that her treatment from the media has been a total disaster and has caused many to loose credibility. The best thing she could do is ignore the insults. Only take on the facts. What a shame to treat any person is such a manner.

With that said, I don't think she made a wise decision to step down as governer of the Great State of Alaska but maybe her reasoning outweighs my thoughts. Dunno??

I will have to disagree with this assessment.
1) Her "approval rating" has dropped about in half with the state dems no longer willing to work with her (or given marching orders not to); she is no longer nearly as effective & efficient in getting things done. If this simple fact is true (and it is), she is doing exactly what the state needs. Time will tell if her replacement is able to garner that bi-partisan support she enjoyed in the past.
2) With half a million in legal fees sitting on her door step and no viable way to pay for that while in office, I would be hitting the talk circuit too.
Can’t call it self-serving if it is a win-win situation.
"Mrs. Palin has attempted to extend her fame way past the 15 minute mark allotted to her"
We can say that about anyone that is in the public eye can't we? Especially applicable to everyone who is a career politician.
On another subject, had any good Thai food lately? They have a new cook at the restaurant I like here, probably the closest to what I remember the "real stuff" tasting like way back when. LOL - of course, the first stuff I ate over there were some dog kabobs. I didn't know it at the time, but tasty, mmmm-

look, it's not about taking care of her own; the people of alaska put their trust in her. she left in favor of making money and promoting herself...in the guise of a higher calling. the fact is, she was not good at governing, and found the spotlight too hot after being inflammatory, foolish, and then playing the victim.
i don't favor Mrs. Palin's politics, but even more than that, i find it very difficult to condone or be supportive of, her behavior.

The truth is that Palin had a high approval rate in the state because the Alaskan welfare state was handing out checks. (bribes from the fossil fuel industries windfall profits) . Once people had a look at her carnival when she appeared on McCain's flaming "straight talk" covered wagon her approval rate tanked and has not recovered. This latest buffoonery likely only leads to a gig at Faux Noose.

If the GOP wishes to be taken seriously, they need to choose candidates that have more to offer than simply playing the role of tactical pawns in the dying moments of a campaign.

I'm sorry, but this was a bit TOOO obvious. They picked Palin because they believed the Hilary voters were only voting for Hilary because she was a woman & would immediately flock to the next woman on the ticket. Same reason they picked an incompetent black man to run the RNC.

I don't buy it. This is just the opinion of one nazi liberal reporter who imagines he knows what he's talking about. Of course w/the appalling arrogance and drone like mentality of most liberals they will buy it. Oh no. This is just the beginning. Sarah Palin is a lion and when she roars she is going to shake up and scare every nazi liberal in America. She will scare them more than they already are of her. Actually when she roars she scares most sane and rational people that someone who is soooo clueless could have been chosen as the VP candidate of a formerly majpor political party in the US. But if you think on it the Repulicans havent been noted for selecting strong candidates but rather front men, people who cna be manipulated and perform a role as dictated by those pulling the strings. Palin is probably the best example of that, totally clueless and also unwilling to put in the time to brush up on things she should know. The republicans seem intent on becoming more and more unimportant and for some reason seem to be proud of that fact.

Palin resigns amidst ethics scandal as governor, has had numerous family issues, can't handle the job she was elected to do, but does a good job rallying people.
Pawlenty announced with hardly no fanfare that he wasn't running for reelection, his family has stayed out of the limelight (no scandals and we in MN would know about it especially after his VP nomination last summer.) and has done a few things that I have to give him credit for. Most of what he's done has not been good for the majority of Minnesotians. He is definitely a party player. Whatever the RNC wants he gives them. He also knows to run to Iraq or Afghanistan when doing something he knows will not be good for MN and that he'll have to answer for.
I never in million years thought I'd ever have to point out to Republicans the better of two potential candidates for President.

"...I feel sorry for conservatives who look to her as a champion because she's going to let them down."
Eugene Robinson, the writer of this article, is one of my favorite reporters, but I must confess he is definitely a more forgiving man than I. And that is my polite way of disagreeing with the use of the word "immaturity" in describing Sarah Palin.
I could not muster much compassion for Republicans who have already paid a steep premium for supporting Sarah Palin. As for me, describing Governor Palin as immature is more polite than informative. Unless one presumes that unscrupulous demagoguery is a phase young politicians often outgrow. Exploiting bigotry against Muslims, racism, and using the fear of terrorism to promote a presidential campaign is more than just a mistake of an enthusiastic neophyte.
It is easy to package Sarah Palin; the oil companies and the military industrialists have been more than willing to pave her way into the White House. Americans and the media need to take a good look at what she really is; a ruthless politician who has no problem stepping over the bodies that she often leaves in her wake. Will her victims remember her perfume and pageant walking? I think not.
Who should we take seriously? How about the mainstream media owned and paid for by the military industrial complex and the oil companies who lobby our government hoping to find Sarah Palin or some other malleable sycophant a home in the White House? -
