Comments for Joe "THE" Biden ‘We Misread the Econony’ – And it’s all the Republicans’Fault »
Posted By pc25 5 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsSome distant day, many scientists believe, the earth will be devoid of human life due to some cosmic catastrophe or – ultimately – due to our depleted sun transforming into a red giant. The truly good news about such an otherwise bleak future is that the Obama administration will presumably no longer be able to blame Republicans for the economy that they “inherited.”

The ONLY thing that Democrats actually “inherited” was moron genes, a talent for demagoguery and deceit, and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid (please see “moron genes”).
Let’s not tell anyone that liberal Paul Krugman’s warning that we need a second stimulus is secret code for, “The first stimulus didn’t work worth squat, so let’s throw more money down the toilet.” And let’s for DAMN sure not tell anyone that unemployment benefits are going to be ending for workers starting in September and things will truly begin to increasingly suck after that as the unemployment rate grows like a “green shoot”..........Business professionals back in October predicted that Obama would literally bankrupt the country within three years if he was elected. Republicans (such as Paul Ryan) widely predicted the terribly flawed and terribly partisan pork-laden stimulus would fail – which is why only three out of 239 Republicans voted for it-

That is so non-sensical as to not even be worthy of a detailed response (i.e. you totally misrepresent Krugmans remarks). The rest is pure partisanship. You are so biased in your thinking it is amazing you can drive down a straight road without veering right. You accept no responsibility for the Republican share of this mess. None. Until you are willing to accept that your party was a major player in this economic collapse. Clearly you are living outside the realm of reality.

This kind of crap and the garbage spewed over the last week in my home state defending Mark Sanford's actions have left me completely repulsed with the Right. You will justify any words, any action of a Republican. You are acting like spoiled little children who want their sandbox back so they can p--ss in it again. Hopefully you are forever banned.
We have nothing in common, nothing other than the fact we live between the same borders. To me your behavior is nothing more than an insult to America. I would have never thought we could have become further divided than the Bush years but that day is here.-

Whatever guy, you have a PRESIDENT named Clinton that had sex in the oval office and the Democrats defended that. Where was your outrage?
Reply
Right now I'm listening to Pelosi talk about Michael Jackson in a news conference. Are you F'ing kidding me? THis is the party you love? THe party that would rather talk about Michael Jackson than helping out the protesters in Iran? The party that also did nothing when BUsh was ruining the economy.
Hate to say it but the same peope the Bush is in bed with are also in bed with your buddies the Democrats. Get real guy. You have no clue.-

No one I know of or have heard of defended Clinton having sex with someone other than his wife in the White House or anywhere else. That is absolute bullsh-t. Now many did did say it was not a "impeachable" offense, that it was not a high crime or misdemeanor, big difference.
Reply
The point is Mark Sanford is not Bill Clinton. You are behaving like children as I said above. This is like saying Johnny threw a rock and broke a window so why can''t I? Clinton never held himself up as a paragon of virtue like Sanford. Nor did he desert his office for five days (the reason he should resign, not the affair) at anytime to be with his lover(s). Nor did he claim his was a love affair, while admitting to numerous liasons with other women. No one should be making excuses for either of these men's indiscretions. That is the point!
Your 2nd paragraph dissolves into the exact rhetoric I referred to. What exactly should (or could) the Democrats have done to stop Bush? The minority party is not responsible for the actions of the ruling party. The ruling party is the one that controls the veto. Period! Bush held total veto control for those 8 years, the Democrats never held any override capability. Go ahead and deny that fact! I don't recall Republicans saying there was anything wrong with his economic policies until the big lurch in Sept '08. . His "base" was quite well taken care of.
You have proved yourself a fool with your remarks. "No clue'? You simply are not dealing from a full deck. Playing with only jokers apparently.

No conservatives in here supported Bush's response to the economy. Calls to Congress by both Democrats and Republicans ran 70:1 against the Bush package. And oh by the way...Obama--after claiming that he inherited a mess made by Bush--one-upped Bush in stimulus spending.
Reply
A. That's not change.
B. If Democrats repeat--no, trump--Republican mistakes, they forfeit their pathetic attempt at blame-shifting.
And spare us your faux indignation theater. It plays well to an audience of you alone.-

Georgia and her usual clueless remarks. Impatient as h-ll for the stimulus to work accepting no reponsibility for her parties duplicity in the collapse. Tax cuts would have done nothing in the fall. And you weren't going to fool the public into buying into "trickle down" again.

"after claiming that he inherited a mess made by Bush"
C'mon, Bush could never have made this mess on his own. Judging from his foreign policy work it is doubtful he understood much of what was being done in his name. Afterall he never vetoed anything. He was rubber stamp president if we have ever had one. And politicians had little to do with these repackaged loans, where quick profit was taken and the repackaged nothings that remained dumped down the line for resale.
Let's forget the stimulus. Stop it all right now. Let's see where we end up in a year. The inaction you suggest, or action in the form of tax cuts, would have been disastrous. And if McCain had won there would have been constant infighting with Palin supporters like Limbaugh (who hates McCain) and Cheney (who clearly doesn't care for him either) and that entire wing of the party. The economy would likely have stalled, banks would have failed, we would be headed for a depression, not a deep recession. Thankfully we don't get to find out.

Did you catch the Chuck Todd interview with Obama on July 07, 2009
TODD: I want to move to economy, it's going to come up at the G-8 a little bit. I want to read some various phrases that you've used in your administration. Early on, when you took office, you said the economy was going to get worse before it gets better. Then Larry Summers said we hit bottom to a point. Then we started hearing the phrase green shoots. You predicted, though, higher unemployment. Vice President Biden over the weekend said the team misread the economy. And then yesterday, Prime Minister Brown was saying that the recession might get worse. So let's erase those words. What's the state of the economy? Is it getting better? Is it getting worse? Are there green shoots?
OBAMA: Here is my assessment and I think this assessment has been fairly consistent. We haven't always gotten the numbers right but I think the general overview is right. We went through an economic tsunami that was far worse than anything we've gone through since the Great Depression. And even early on I think we did not see the full magnitude of what was going to happen.
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/07/07/...
So basically Obama said the same thing Biden did - the administration misread the economy. So much for all of the touted "experts" who are Obama's economic advisers-

The President isn't a dictator yet. I'm not a fan of Bush and didn't vote for him but for the last two years of his presidency, the Congress was controlled by Democrats. The House of Representatives is the only branch to tax and spend. The President can propose a budget but it's the House that has the responsibility for yearly deficits and the debt.

Job Creators Prefer John McCain 4-to-1 Over Barack Obama
Over 70 percent of CEOs fear an Obama presidency will be a disaster
Chief Executive magazine's most recent polling of 751 CEOs shows that GOP presidential candidate John McCain is the preferred choice for CEOs. According to the poll, which is featured on the cover of Chief Executive's most recent issue, by a four-to-one margin, CEOs support Senator John McCain over Senator Barack Obama. Moreover, 74 percent of the executives say they fear that an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country.
"The stakes for this presidential election are higher than they've ever been in recent memory," said Edward M. Kopko, CEO and Publisher of Chief Executive magazine. "We've been experiencing consecutive job losses for nine months now. There's no doubt that reviving the job market will be a top priority for the incoming president. And job creating CEOs repeatedly tell us that McCain's policies are far more conducive to a more positive employment environment than Obama's."-

Job creators? Is that one of the republican "code words" for someone who lays off a bunch of people, sinks the company stock and thinks they deserve a several million dollar bonus for being a complete F up? So these F ing thieving bastards support McCain 4 to 1. Go figure.-

PC, great article, very informative. Loved the NYT quotes regarding Bush attempting to introduce legislation to control FM/FM and the dumb Barney Frank quote.
It's too bad this will receive the yellow "controversial line", but we know why......too honest, backed up with documented facts and the libs can't handle the truth. We also know the article won't be addressed, so be prepared for the name-calling and filthy talk.-

Not at all K9, i would expect his ratings to take a beating since he has a big job ahead of him. I do like the fact he has jumped in with both feet into America's problems rather then just going on vacation as the previous tenant did. I also admire the fact that he has kept you safe from both terrorist attacks and asteroid hits so far.

That reminds me of the Polish joke I heard. No offense to anyone Polish but this was the way I heard the joke. A guy walks into a bar and says he has the funniest Polish joke in the world. The bartender says I would watch what you are saying around here because I am Polish, those 2 bouncers are Polish, and so is half the bar. So the guy says "OK I will speak very slowly" I missed remembering a bit of transition in telling that joke but I am here to cummunicate an idea. Just because you put it in caps ace isn't going to improve his reading comprehension skills. PC is like a late term abortion. Eventually you have to know it just isn't going to function no matter what you do so do you keep trying or do you close the book?

Obama said over and over last fall that we were in the worst recession since the Great Depression
Obama and members of his economic team began working with Congress on a stimulus bill in the fall - well before he even took office
Remember his first news conference after he took office?
Barack Obama: economic stimulus bill will prevent American 'catastrophe'
President Barack Obama has used his first White House press conference to tell Americans that passing his massive economic stimulus bill would mean the difference between "catastrophe" and saving or creating "up to four million jobs"
In a bleak assessment of the American economy, Mr Obama said that only the federal government could rescue the world's biggest economy from this "winter of our hardship. and prevent a "negative spiral" into depression.
Mr Obama took his case for an $800 billion-plus stimulus package directly to ordinary Americans by holding a campaign-style event in unemployment-hit Elkhart, Indiana before returning to Washington to make his final pitch to Congress.
"This is not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill recession. We are going through the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression." He added that "doing a little or nothing at all will result in even greater deficits, even greater job loss, even greater loss of income, and even greater loss of confidence" Greater deficits "could turn a crisis into a catastrophe".

Did you read the Labor Dept report?? ACTUAL unemployment is even higher than 15%.
What was the unemployment rate during the Depression? ~25%
Actual Unemployment Rate Rises To 16.5%
The nation's official unemployment rate in June rose from 9.4 to 9.5 percent, its highest in 26 years.
The nation's actual unemployment rate in June rose from 16.4 to 16.5 percent, the highest figure by far since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began keeping the data in 1994.
The lower figure includes only those whom the Labor Department includes in the way it figures its official unemployment data
But that figure does not include "discouraged" Americans -- those who have given up looking for work. It also does not include part-timers or others who are "marginally attached" to the labor force, as the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics puts it.
Here's the Bureau of Labor Statistics' full explanation: "Marginally attached workers are persons who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the recent past. Discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached, have given a job-market related reason for not currently looking for a job. Persons employed part time for economic reasons are those who want and are available for full-time work but have had to settle for a part-time schedule."
Since the beginning of the year, the number has looked like this:
- January: 13.9%.
- February: 14.8%.
- March: 15.6%.
- April: 15.8%.
- May: 16.4%.
- June: 16.5%.

Is that OFFICIAL or ACTUAL?
How do you know, since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began keeping the data in 1994?
The official unemployment rate has been rising at a steady rate since May, 2008, showing signs of trouble well before Mr. Obama was elected. What was our government at the time doing about it? With a Democratic simple majority in Congress, the Republicans filerbusting and Mr. Bush vetoing, or threatening to veto everything the Democrats authored, what could the Democrats do?
Over all , I blame both parties for not working together, but I can't blame Mr. Obama and the recent Democratic Congress for the mess we have now. In 2 years, the responsibility will shift toward them. Until then, I will give them a chance. If the Democrats end up screwing up as bad as the Republicans, I will be voting and campaigning only Independent. This is the last straw on the 2 party system for me.-

The unemployment rate for the years 1923-29 was 3.3 percent. In 1931 it jumped to 15.9, in 1933 it was 24.9 percent. It then steadily decreased until 1941 when it stood at 9.9%. In 1942, after U.S. entry into World War II, the rate dropped to 4.7%.
