""Letters by the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and other members of the panel say CIA Director Leon Panetta told Congress last month that senior CIA officials have concealed significant actions and misled lawmakers repeatedly since 2001.
Reply
Exactly what actions Panetta disclosed to the House Intelligence Committee on June 24 is unclear, but committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, said the CIA outright lied in one case.
"These notifications have led me to conclude that this committee has been misled, has not been provided full and complete notifications, and (in at least one case) was affirmatively lied to," Reyes wrote to Michigan Rep. Peter Hoekstra, the committee's senior Republican. A copy of his letter was obtained by The Associated Press.
Reyes said in the letter that he is considering opening a full investigation."-

Of course the CIA lied to Congress. They're the only ones still under security restrictions that can't release documents to prove that Pelosi is lying. Blaming anyone else would make it possible that they could defend themselves and make Democrats look even more dishonest than they already do!

(of course, Democrats are the dumb crooks in D.C. pointing out that they're almost all scumbags is like shooting fish in a barrel - not very challanging. at least Republicans who are corrupt have at least a slight chance of coming up with plausible lies...) -

They need to do more than investigate. There's not enough oversight and these intelligence agencies are breaking laws for reasons other than fighting terrorism.

If people knew the things they were doing there would be marches on Washington.

I agree Spade, it is a "He said, She said" merry go round
Reply
I think it is interesting that they use the date 2001 as the beginning of the misleading start...isn't that when Bush/Cheney wanted to go to war and needed a reason...very interesting, I think it is going to get more interesting before it is over. -

Right Spade.

It is all one big he said, that she said, that they said, that we said, that they said, that he said, that she said. Note exactly 'dis-information' but it does have the effect of 'mudding' the water.
Also 'nuancing' is used like the political version of the truth; things are said a certain way to accomplish a predetermined goal that in reality could very well be either out right criminal or against the tenants of the Constitution.

This entire issue is ridiculous.

I can't imagine that a single American believes that the CIA doesn't lie.
Let's face facts. The CIA's boss is whoever occupies the Oval Office.
Between 2000 and 2008 ... the boss was Dick Cheney. And he used the CIA as his own Imprimatur Stamping Machine.
He would come up with the 'Evil Scenario' ... and then he stamped it ... CIA APPROVED.
The rest is history.

Here's an admission by Tenet himself that he said nothing while Bush acolytes were feeding false information.

This is from a CNN story on the topic.

FTA:
"He's admitted that he [Tenet] made a mistake in not pushing harder to get the lie or the gross inaccuracy out of the speech. And that may be a firing offense. The question is, who was pushing to get the lie into the speech? And that's what is going to need to be investigated."
You may not WANT to believe it ... but I'm sure you are proud of them when they DO lie.
If you are feigned disappointment at the CIA lying ... you wouldn't be a Modern Republican.
Modern Republicans support ANYTHING that the military, CIA, FBI, and Police do. I've seen it my entire life.

It's genetic.

So I'm thinking about what constitutes "national security" and why. Got these secret committees going to see if the CIA lied. Not releasing documents. Not releasing testimony. What would happen to our national security if it came out that the CIA illegally tortured, or the books were cooked to say torture was legal? The world would know we did bad things? The way I figure it, if we did bad things the world already knows, at least in the areas where the bad things were done. So who then would the truth be hidden from? The world? Nope. American citizens? hmmmm. What would it harm our national security for American citizens to learn the truth, if indeed there is a truth we don't know about?
Reply
Our government is too secretive, and Americans are fools to allow it. Americans should have been furious at the pardons over the Iran/Contra affair, which stopped investigations. The world knows, and we don't. -

The intelligence agencies are out of control. That's what they need to address with better laws and more effective oversight.
Reply
If they reign in the intelligence abuses, you'd be surprised at how many problems will disappear.
They create the problems to cover up things.

The lying is not to protect something honorable. That's what some people might be led to think. Think about Bush and how the Republicans controlled politics after 9/11.
Reply
They can see and hear through the walls in your house. That's what they have been lying about- not the capabilities, but how they have been abusing it for criminal purposes. -

Cheney was conducting a secret assissination regime, answerable to noone. Does anyone give a crap about that? Amazing why this hasn't been exposed by the arsemonkeys on the fascist daily, Murdock tabloid noise. Oh...that's right....its all about making the rich richer, to protect the sanctity of the global super rich in their gulf streams, so faux noise wouldn't say a derned thing, since Murdock is a member.

The cia is just the secret army within an army to protect the industrial military complex financial empire and big oil. There is no country to protect, the american public is just an abstract entity, there are thousands of seperate billion dollar industries in this country, that is what matters.
Iraq just handed the production of oil to american and chinese industry. Only 36,000 dead and injured americans, and 500,000 Iraqi's and counting, what a bargin. How many did cheney murder for profit pesonally, only the CIA knows. -

Seems to be the typical Repuglican mistake/outright lie in the headline here... The Democrats are not the ones saying the CIA lied to Congress...the head of the CIA said that.
Reply
But hey, what do Repuglicans and their sheep need with facts. They have their lies to repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat... -
