When Plato and Palin Collide »
Posted By capj71 4 months ago in Political NewsEver since her resignation announcement, soon to be former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has been waxing philosophically on her Twitter account, where today’s attempt at depth was a quote that she attributed to Plato, only it was never uttered by Plato, but instead comes from 1670 gentleman’s etiquette guide. When Palin and Plato collide, the results aren’t pretty.

Palin quotes Plato accurately "You learn more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation". What Lindgard said is not the same but rather his own interpretation ".... 7 years of conversation ...",etc. It's no wonder why Palin is so maligned by false rumors, innuendo and misquotes and so on ad nauseum.

I don't remember if it was actually "Lindgard" that referenced the " .. 7 years .." but at any rate the author of the story is an idiot to say the least. Palin quoted "Plato" accurately as you mentioned, at least that's the way I read it in Philosophy class in law school. But then the author, down the page says "the correct quote is ...." No, that is NOT the correct quote, the correct quote was uttered by Palin. And it was NOT a "Palinization" of the quote mentioned but rather a Plato quote. These attacks on Palin are unfounded, mythical and downright misguided. And no, I didn't vote for the McCain ticket.

It doesn't matter whether Palin misquoted Plato, given the growing number of misstatements she has made:

Cripes, what a misguided story that is!! Think about it, "the state employees are being paid anyway". Well of course they are but if they didn't have to waste the taxpayers dollars fending off complaints or investigating same then they could be doing things more beneficial for the taxpayers.
