Bad News as Windows 7 Upgrade Procedures Verified »
Posted By TechnologyExpert 5 months, 3 weeks ago in Science & TechnologyTechnophiles like myself who are also frugal have, in the past, purchased upgrade editions of Windows, and been able to do a clean, fresh install either by entering a prior valid license key or inserting a CD for the older software at install time. That went away with Vista, which required a hacky workaround, but now Microsoft is completely shutting down even that methodology, for Windows 7.

I don't worry...as it is only a different looking version of the last version...and I wouopd rather put my time into something like I am running as an operating system right now...it's called Mandriva...the result of Mandrake. It's free too...and they do not put children in jail for messing around with the software, etc. Sad...but I do not want anything to do with these people that keep putting our children in jail for anything they can think of.

The problem with any operating system is what programs you need to run. There are companies that use DOS, Windows 95/8 etc. They have programs that they can not get to run on other operating systems. This is a legacy problem. Ford had a computer that they had to keep a building open they wanted to close because of a program that they could not duplicate. It was on a very old Philco computer. They had replaced the hard drive with another much faster computer and it emulated the hard drive. This was in the 80's and I do not know what resolution it finally had. They were afraid to move it because it might never come up again.

If you got Vista there is a way to use the Vista Ultimate Upgrade to do a clean install. Do an install without entering a license key. This will put in place a temporary Vista with a 3 month limit. Then do the upgrade and use the license key. Hopefully Windows 7 will have this feature. It is there because for enterprise people to install an operating system and put everything in place and then make an image of it to put on multiple computers and then install the license key for each computer. We will see.
