Sarah Palin's Son Is Not a Republican, and She's Apparently Fine With That »

Sarah Palin has decided to stay put in the world of politics. Though she'll no longer hold the title and responsibilities of governor of the great state of Alaska, she will remain quite active in the campaigns of other politicians, even Democrats. To hear her tell it, she'll strive to put an end to the partisan bickering that has harmed our union:

"I will go around the country on behalf of candidates who believe in the right things, regardless of their party label or affiliation. People are so tired of the partisan stuff -- even my own son is not a Republican."

Palin's son Track is registered as "nonpartisan." Her husband, Todd, also is currently registered as nonpartisan, though for a time he was a member of the Alaska Independence Party, a secessionist group that makes most mainstream Republicans seem quite liberal by comparison.

So, while one can certainly applaud the soon-to-be-ex-governor's desire to lift the nation beyond partisan polarization, the question is: Which Democrats does Palin think "believe in the right things"? In the absence of an example, she has constructed something of a Catch-22: promising to campaign for Democrats only if they pass a litmus test few would likely be capable of. Since we've never heard Palin express much sympathy for anything other than a staunchly conservative governing philosophy, that would seem to exclude even "Blue Dog" Democrats.

In other words, whatever her son's party affiliation, I'll believe Palin's claims of supporting Democratic candidates when I actually see her doing so. Until then, this pledge strikes me as just another savvy way to earn more headlines.

If you don't like Palin, why do you keep her in the news?

her son could be even farther left than republicans, for all we know he could be a skin head.

doubtful that he's a dem or progressive, or that she'd be happy about it if he were.

Palin will stump for whoever can afford her. She wants the money without the responsibility.
