Sea spiders (<i>Pycnogonida</i>) are marine chelicerate arthropods most common in shallow waters. They use four to six pairs of comparably long legs for walking. Pycnogonids have no respiratory system, hence respiration occurs through direct diffusion which is promoted by a high surface-area-to-volume ratio. In contrast to most arthropods, some Pycnogonida species lack chelifores.
