So far the builder hasn't found any evidence of the defective drywall in any homes outside of Florida during the same time span. However, 550 million pounds of Chinese drywall was imported into the U.S. from 2004 to 2006, and it is unknown how many homes were victims of the defective product.

Nothing in this article lists any defect in the drywall. If any drywall becomes wet for a long period it gives off a distinctive oder, sounds to me like poor workmanship rather than defective drywall. Another example of blame some one else in my opinion. Is it bash China day again?

    altnrg.

The article noted that the drywall had been tested by responsible agencies and a problem had been reported. It did not specify if the variable associated with Chinese Drywall was outside the parameters of the Drywall specification listed on any spec house. Assuming that the Chinese Drywall is non-conforming, the chain of supply would be a roadmap back to the Manufacturing facilitity, the bulk purchaser of the drywall, and the shipping manifest would continue the trail.

Either the drywall complies with U S regulations or it does not. The article didn't state whether it did or not.

Surely there is a way to recoup from this...there are many materials that can be used as a coating etc. That might give some relief...
