Senate Panel Approves Health Care Bill »
Posted By Newperson 5 months, 1 week ago in NewsThe Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions panel voted along party lines to approve its version of the health care reform bill on July 15, 2009, one day after House Democrats unveiled their own $1.04 trillion measure.
President Obama was quick to applaud the committee's action.
"The HELP committee's success should give us hope, but it should not give us pause," he said today in a statement from the White House. "It should instead provide the urgency for both the House and Senate to finish their critical work on health reform before the August recess."

And here it comes.....just the idea of raising the tax on a can of soda should ring loud and clear to all Americans. Is there going to be a stipulation that only those making >$250,000 a year have to pay the tax? Hardly.....

they why are so many people suffering and dying for lack of health care?
you folks seem to care more about fetus' than the already born. make the woman carry the child to term, then abandon them both to a world without equitable access to health care, education and employment.
what a hypocritical (and incomprehensible) crock of poop. -

My Fellow Americans: Here's my situation. Pay for Insurance, Get Sick, Go to the Family Doctor, Get a Check Up, Determine the Problem, Get an Operation, a Few Drugs, a Little Rest and Recuperation, Good as New.

Now, Why do I need Government Controlled Health Care? I go to the Best Hospitals and Doctors in the World, (those in the U.S.A.) and all my problems are solved.
We actually have a form of National Health Care but I don't qualify for it. I'm an American, I'm not on Public Assistance, I'm not Disabled, Yes, and I'm not Retired. So, Why included me in the Bill for National Health Care?
It defies Logic why anyone would Trust Their Lives to a Government Controlled Program. After all, doesn't it seem like Liberals are against the Military. Actually, I would feel much more comfortable becoming part of this National Health Care Program if Obama, Pelosi, Biden, Reed, Guietner, Sotomayor, and whomever else that is pushing it would take it as their own Health Care Program.
It's my understanding that Congress, the Unions, and the Illegal Aliens will be exempt from the program. So, what is the purpose of this program, I'm rather confused.
They say those that don't chose to have it will be punished by an Income Tax Reprisal. Where is my Freedom of Choice? What, did I lose another Freedom? Well, shiver my timbers. The Real American-

LOL, but trusting your life to a profit driven corporation, who would drop your cancer treatment by calling it 'pre existing' doesn't defy logic? Go figure. -

Republican ex-Gov Mitt Romney did something similar to Massachusetts, mandatory medical insurance or pay fines (tax penalties). The program began having problems just a year after it was forced upon the state residents.

In Massachusetts, Universal Coverage Strains Care

The objections that have been brought out about shortages of primary care and other doctors and long wait times have been poo-pooed by the proponents of Obama's plans but in Massachusetts is a real-life laboratory experiment for all to see.
You can't trust both Republicans and Democrats. They're politicians and easily bought by special interests. What you can trust is that this Senate health plan will be an expensive impediment to our medical care and further damage health care in the U.S. Then we'll hear more cries about how the "free market" failed under a mandatory government-plan and we need national socialist universal government health care.

I don't believe anyone would not want Free Health Benefits. After reading a lot of blogs, I come to this conclusion, they want it, but they don't want anyone else to get it. If you stay in shape, you wouldn't need it, other than a check up every now and then. So what's the fuss? Who's going to pay for it? Like I'm concerned about that. We are going to pay Taxes rather we have it or not, so use it to Benefit the People and not to Buy some exotic Military BS, to engage in a sense War with someone that is no treat to us,like we've already done in Iraq.

What are you brain dead there is not going to be free health care! Heath care even bad government health care will cost a bundle. Of course, if you are on welfare and never intend to have a job you will get free health care but it won't be good health care and someone will be paying a lot for it. They will be paying with dollars that could create jobs. Duh!

I think the scare tactics on both sides are not helping the discussion.

But trying to push this through at the speed that they are moving is not the right thing to do. If Obama is the pragmatist he claims to be, then opening up the discussion should be the primary goal.
We have thee best Hospitals and Doctors in the history of human kind, so making change for changes sake doesn't make sense.
First we need to understand the problem, the problem is not the quality of health care, but the runaway expense.
What is causing the dramatic increase in expenses?
As I see it (in no particular order)
Lawsuits, in both premiums and CYA procedures and tests
End of Life treatments (This is a tough one, but if we are going to be honest, something that has to be dealt with)
Illegals, again I cannot blame them for seeking treatment, just leaving them to die in the streets, is well... insane. However we need to track the cost to understand its full impact. The fact that we don't speaks for itself.
Last is medicine the most expensive part of bringing a new medicine to market, is not the research, but clinical trials, I have not heard anything about revamping the FDA?
If I missed anything would like your feedback.-

Your exactally correct in saying we do have the best medicine available to us in the world. ( but allowing socialized healthcare to happen for us, then we will no longer have that ).and that the problem that we have is the out of control costs, but who do you think has allowed this to happen?? of course insurance companies and pharmacutical companies lobby the heck out of elected leaders...now they know they are up a creek without the proverbial paddle and are flipping out to try to regain some control...(yes Im sure they are alarmed that medicare is paying out more in payments then they are taking in in medicare tax dollars...and thats even with the higher medicare taxes they have imposed on us over the past 20 years)...but letting them run your healthcare is crazy...they have destroyed our social security system (dipping into it whenever it suited them for there own agendas), if left the way it was intended we would have had enough money in the trust account to pay for our grandkids grandkids...look at the post office...look at fannie and freddie...they couldnt run a sucessful septic tank cleaning business..let alone something as important as our healthcare....geez the medicare system should be proof enough for you people...*sigh*

Ask my Russin wife how well socialized medicine works. The health care bill and the cap and tax bills are nothing more than a massive power grab by our corrupt government and will interfere in your day to lives more than you can possibly imagine. Obama's only goal is the total destruction of the American way of life. He is taking from the wealthy and giving to the lazy assed poor. When you lose your job because Obama taxed the heck out of the rich don't complain. Good luck paying your utility bills this winter. Hope you don't mind 6.00 a gallon gasoline soon.

Health care costs are so expensive because of at least 5 factors that are not being addressed.
Reply
1. Personal responsibility: Eat healthy, excersice, don't smoke, etc....
2. Doctors in this country are mostly in it for the money.
3. Drug companies use the U.S. as their profit center. the same drugs sell for 60-90% less in the rest of the world.
4. Malprcatice awards need to be limited.
5. Our system of sustaining life beyond reason, when there is no quality.
6. Because of the high cost of drugs in this country, 30% of the cost of Health insurance premiums are for drug plans.
When you can address these costs and get them under control you can afford to insure everyone, until then you are just cost shifting the current system to the middle class and the rich more than it is already. -

Most government-educated Americans would be shocked to hear that there is no "right" to healthcare. Tell me where in our Constitution it is written that you have a right to a portion on someone else's life .. in this case, it would be the service of providing medical care at the point of a gun.
Reply
why are the Democrats doing this? This is the easiest to answer. The Democrats want to make people more dependent on government. They are going to do this by offering something that more Americans now value above all: stability. Americans think they want freedom. What a crock. Americans will whine about their freedom to choose which sports team to root for or which Hollywood gossip magazine to buy. But when freedom requires any ounce of personal responsibility, people immediately wipe their hands clean and want someone else to do it for them. This is where the Democrats come in .. the Democrats will make sure that the government is there to do the things the people of this country no longer feel is their personal responsibility. The reason why the Democrats are willing to do this is also simple: power. Ensuring votes. Not hard to figure out, is it?
