Posted By klynchsf 4 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsRachel Maddow always has a way of calling it the way she sees it. --Thanks for the reminder but where did you get the idea that her ability to be a good judge (which is the actual issue here) could be distilled from one or two statements? How has her record been as a JUDGE? If you're so much more qualified than people with many years more education and legal expertise , perhaps you can explain why she has been endorsed AS A JUDGE by Democrats AND Republicans alike? -

The disgrace for all Americans is the accusations and innuendos put forth in the Sotomayor hearings. As I recall from the Roberts confirmation hearings he "danced around the questions" every bit as much as Sotomayor. It is not prudent for a judge to give positive answers to theoretical questions when it's impossible to know all of the potential circumstances where such a question might arise in an actual court situation.

Sotomayor has an extensive record to establish her philosophy yet one case and one sentence out of a speech she made eight years ago are about all the Repubs have to harp on. In the firefighter case it should be noted that eight judges, including four SC judges have come to the same conclusion in that case, five have disagreed.
As far as "a wise Latina woman" she did say MIGHT make a better decision than a white male.
And yes, a wise Latina, or a wise woman, or even a wise Latina woman could easily make a better decision in some circumstances than a white male simply because a different life experience gives them a different perspective of the world.

The only disgrace here is appointing an admitted racist to the Supreme Court. At least the Republicans ask the hard questions. What are the liberals doing? Nada. It's what they are best at. It doesn't matter. To me the Supreme Court is no longer a functioning body and is about as useful as the United Nations. If Sotomayor gets confirmed it will just cement my belief about the uselessness of the Supreme Court.

--Is Jeff Sessions an admitted racist? Is he a disgrace? Given some of his past statements, is the GOP not completely oblivious of what it looks like to the rest of America having *him* sit in judgment of Sotomayor? Also, what qualifies as a "hard" question and why? Why is the Supreme Court "no longer a functioning body"? Opinions you have many. Supporting arguments and examples--not so much. ;-0

The more the republicans (especially racist southern ones) continue to spew their thought on racism the more their own racist views come into light. Their words in the past have come back to bite them. They have no shame being hypocrites and racists.

Seems almost like Jeff Sessions is trying to get back at someone for his being rejected for a federal judges seat because of his racist background. Certainly appears that he is not the best Republican to have been leading the charge against Sotomayor.
