More ads claim [falsely] that Congress is pushing a Canadian-style health care bill »
Posted By bubba2 5 months, 2 weeks ago in Political NewsWe've written before about conservatives claiming that Congress, or Obama, or Washington, or Democrats in general want the U.S. to have a Canadian-style, government-run health care system.
The truth of the matter is that the president has repeatedly said he doesn't. In fact, since being sworn in as president, Obama has riled advocates of such single-payer systems by largely excluding them from the health care debate.
Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and one of the leaders in drafting legislation, has said bluntly: "single-payer is not going to get even to first base in Congress."
Yet, the Canada claims continue.

There'll be a whole lot more false claims about the bill spread around before this thing is through.
It's obvious by seeing member comments out here that one false claim is already being publicized. Some seem to already believe that a section on page 16 of the House bill eliminates your ability to switch between plans as soon as the bill takes effect.
I've already seen several members question this on other threads--it must be one of the talking pints being spread from the bill's opponents.
The rumor that the bill will not allow anyone to ever switch plans is patently false.
Someone has misinterpreted or misrepresented a section of the bill that defines which private insurance plans are to be "grandfathered in" under the new law, meaning because they will have existed before the bill's passage, theose plans won't have to include protections for consumers included in the bill. The section in question says that grandfathered plans will not be able to accept new members. But private insurers are free to start up new plans after the bill takes effect, so anyone will be able to choose any of those private plans or any public one.
You will be able to switch to any public or private plan you like that is not a grandfathered plan after the bill is passed. But if you are now in and stay in a grandfathered plan, you will not benefit from the bill's protections. For instance, if you stick with the same plan you have now after the bill is passed, that plan will still be able to keep you from renewing if they deem you a high enough risk. If you later switch to a new plan, public or private, you will not be able to be excluded for pre-existing conditions, and any plan you join will not be able to keep you from renewing. -

Explain to me why every corporation is based on greed? That is the liberal mantry that I get sick of hearing. All that corporations want is a fair profit but liberals turn that into greed. Competition ensures that each will be giving a fair return for the money, If one is priced too high they lose business. But to liberals it is all greed.

What bothers me is that the left doesn't have a lobby with anywhere near the kind of firepower to counteract all of the right wing propaganda that's being spread. I'm not for censorship by any means but I think it's time we got back to sanity wrt truth in advertising. Cons will bitch and while I support anyone's right to exploit the uneducated and the unbelievably stupid, we need to do something to level the playing field.

I think it's a direct result of their nature. They like to think for themselves as opposed to repeat ready-made lies. I agree that outright lies should be challenged somehow.
I still remember John Kerry's presidential election campaign. After one of the debates, which I watched, he was misquoted and misinterpreted. His campaign corrected that misquote very shortly after, but the Republicans kept repeating the lie as if nothing had happened. I simply couldn't believe it. -

The conservative "think tanks" get lots of money from rich conservatives and also from the insurance and pharmaceutical companies.

It is WELL documented that many politicians, especially Republicans, get big contributions from big insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyists.
The insurance and the pharmaceutical companies want to keep the status quo. They don't want any changes, because they are making too much money by denying benefits, surgeries, treatments, and by screwing anyone with "pre-existing" conditions.
The less money insurance companies pay for medical treatment, the more profit they make. They pay bonuses to doctors that 'save' money by NOT ordering tests and treatments and surgeries.
Health care should NEVER be run "for profit". There should never be any such corporate profit at the expense of the health and LIVES of the vast majority of the people in this country. -

A couple days with out hero worship and the left blames the republicans again. They better check on who is actually changing there minds in Washington and then point the finger in the mirror. Than think about the words EDUCATED IDIOTS/DEMS. Conformists vs FREE THINKERS. Sounds like some one is getting scared that the big bad capitalist are going to stop the train.

The CEO of United Health Care walked away with a platinum parachute worth $1.2 billion in 2006. Enough to provide 120,000 families(at 10,000 per) with health insurance for a year. That's where the money is coming from to fund lies about health care reform.

The people that are trying to stop any health care reform are the insurance companies, HMOs, and big pharma, along with their shareholders and CEOs.

Those people are spending 1.5 Million dollars PER DAY lobbying Congress to block any changes to our current health care system. They don't want their profits reduced or derailed - money that is "earned" at the expense of the Tens of Millions of people in this country who are denied access to health care and/or are denied needed treatments for their illnesses/diseases.-

Not to debate all you said. But have you ever known anyone "denied access to health care and/or .... denied needed treatments"? Don't think I have. Maybe you have. Anyway, just wondering about how many people we're talking about ; or are we just talking?

Philosophically, there has to be something/someone to say no. Otherwise, demand for something will be infinite. And neither health care nor anything else can be. People get angry because that something is a crass as profit ; if one despises profit as something immoral, I can certainly undestand. But with health care not being unlimited, who/what decides what goes to whom?
