Ticks (<i>Parasitiformes</i>) are external, blood-feeding parasites (ectoparasites). As such, ticks can transmit several diseases and are generally regarded as pests. While inhabitating grass, shrubs and trees, they attach themselves to passing warm-blooded animals and humans by inserting their chelicerae and hypostome (feeding tube) into the skin. Ticks are widespread throughout the forests of the world.
