Making money is not Evil... »
Posted By bill345 5 months, 1 week ago in Political OpinionThe economy is in a recession.
The government is completely in debt.
The rich are wrong for having money.
The poor just wish they had money.
Money is not evil…. Being in debt and poor is evil. But how do you change that? How do you make more money without becoming the evil rich person who the government wants to tax?
I want more for my kids and I want to live comfortably. I know that part of the game is a mental thing. The government tells us the rich are wrong and need to pay more taxes. But then what about the poor who pay more taxes and more taxes and are not rich.
Plus, isn’t it wrong since the poor want to be rich?
Maybe we should change the way our children think about money - because everyone is playing a head game on us and the poor - only get more poor - despite the governments work.

But million dollar bonuses for bank employees who run the business into bankruptcy is not much better than stealing. Especially when they all get together and agree to pay themselves bonuses.
People who work and pay taxes are tired of people like Rush Limbaugh telling us we are better because of the rich and therefore the rich should not pay taxes. Rather the working people should support the poor people so the rich can maintain their lifestyles. -

Poorly written. That being said... making money can't be evil since the government needs to get its money from those who make it. The U.S. Government sorely needs people who are foolish enough to work harder, longer and smarter in order to pay more taxes.

Extremism in the name of greed is no sin, the repug mantra.

repugs don't give a fart about the country, only about how much they can rape and pilliage, without doing a damn thing for the men and women they enslave doing the work that makes them rich.
The rich never fight and die to make the war profiteers rich. The rich pay 20% of the taxes, even though they own 95% of everything. The rich will get health care, and make money from denying claims from middle and working, destroying the families and children of the working and middle. -

This dad doesn't seen to get it. The majority of wealth in this country is transfered, passed down in families. The wealthy keep their money in their own families. The family you are born into determines how much money you will have throughout your life. You can't fault the man for trying. He thinks if he works hard and comes up with some fancy idea he will be wealthy. That is exactly how the wealthy want you to think. You keep doing all the work and all the spending and we will sit back and keep raking it in. You will never get where we are, because we aren't about giving up any of our money, we have all the connections with our own kind. We are the ones who deserve million dollar bonuses, tax breaks and opportunities to keep getting richer. Be proud that you are a working man and have the good sense to take care of your family. That's what we mean by personal responsibility. Everyone knows we don't want to help you suceed or help raise your kids if you lose your job. It's the American way, land of opportunity, ain't that grand.

The author of the article doesn't have a singular clue about what economics is all about. NO ONE is against people making a good enough living to have what they need and make the lives of their children a little better than their own. NO ONE.

What liberals like myself are opposed to is one group of people having the vast majority of the wealth and then skewing the rules of the game so that other people can't try to get their own share. That's what we're opposed to. When the CEO of a corporation takes home a pay package worth $200 million while the janitor cleaning his bathroom makes $8 an hour, it's a big, big problem. I'm not saying that they should make equal amounts, but there needs to be some equity in the situation.-

Making money is not evil. Sometimes the pursuit of money can distract you from what's really important though. If you don't get the right balance in life you may look back and notice that your kids have had everything they needed growing up except a father. This article seems suspiciously like an advertisement for the rich dad seminars I've seen advertised around town here.

No this is not an ad for rich dad poor dad, I've read several different books on this subject - just happen to pick rich dad poor dad to quote.
But I will say this: I worked 70hr weeks just to get by and saw very little of my duaghter as she grew up. I now have a five year old son and I don't want to do the same. I am not saying greed doesn't keep poor folks down - but if you want more - whats the saying... play by thier rules.......
It's illigal not to pay taxes, it's not illegal to aviod taxes with the law. Why not work the system and if you want change - be one of the players that effect change. Me I just want to be comfortable enough to go watch my son play flag football without worry that if I miss hours at work - will I have enough to eat next week.

I watched a TV show the other night on NBC called "Meteor". It was about a colossal meteor headed towards earth and the efforts to stop it from destroying the earth. As the chaos ensued on the planet, people became lawless. Most figured what the heck. One store owner decided to start selling bottles of water at 50 bucks a piece. A can of soda was like 25 bucks. And a phone call was 50 bucks. It seems that making a profit should have some sort of moral limit. Of course, the owner of a business wants to be profitable, but there is little or vague rules on how profitable. It's hard to make blanket rules because business cyles change and what applies to small town grocer, may not apply to a 7-11 store in downtown Los Angeles.

Who is to set that limit... with what knowledge... and on what basis?
If you are selling your water at $50/bottle. I have an opportunity to sell mine at $49. The person who happens to have the foresight or the luck to have a spring of pure water on their land can undercut me at $48/bottle until I find a supplier from whom I can buy at $45 and sell at $47.
Thus, there are markets, Jovial.
The market price for something represents the equilibrium between greed and fear. Take away fear (as the government did with the Real Estate/Mortgage markets) and greed overwhelms. Conversely, take away greed and fear overwhelms.
The truly sad story of the day is that general public does not understand how the government, in fiddling with the Real Estate/Mortgage markets over the last 60 years, incrementally and increasingly removed fear and caution from those markets. In doing so they created a greed bubble that is now commonly believed to be the fault of markets themselves. That is a nonsensical interpretation that is leading to greater fiddling and, ultimately, to far more dire consequences.
I am not a pure proponent of absolutely unfettered markets. But, I am a proponent of far less fettered markets. Markets are unquestionably better at allocating resources than are governments.

The market concept is great idea until Big Daddy Corps create monopolies and push the little guys out. Walmart forced many small retail shops to close not to mention the amount of destruction they caused in manufacturing by making demands American manufacturers couldn't meet. We lost many great manufacturing plants to China. Greed rules everything in market economics. Greed can only be solved by moral limits. Morality isn't addressed in corporate law. It's very obvious CEOS are not using a moral compass to direct operations. Greed is the guiding force.
