The Daily Beast has learned that the Senate, prompted by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, will hold hearings on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", a first since 1993, despite Obama's campaign promises.

    Once the hearings have concluded, Senator Gillibrand needs to shepherd this bill through the various hearings and avoid any Republican amendments that would stall this legislation or attach it to some sort of poison pill as they have with other bills. The Republican base is shifting toward allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly, but the rank and file Republicans in Congress do not seem to care.

      Good news indeed. I hope she is successful. 69% of Americans think that G's& L's should be able to serve. That should say something to congress.
