Posted By TechCombo 5 months ago in Science & TechnologyData storage pioneers, Western Digital, publicized on Monday their two new spanking products, the Scorpio Blue 750 GB and the Scorpio Blue 1TB smashing the previous record for the largest notebook hard drive size which was 500 GB. The Scorpio Blue joins the My Passport Essential SE Portable USB hard drive family.
At present, the largest desktop drive is one whole terrabyte bigger than the Scorpio Blue but is still 1mm thicker, as the 1TB notebook edition is only 2.5mm thick! For the 1TB edition, Western Digital have decided to use 333 GB per platter. The SATA2 hard drive offers a 3Gbs ( gigabyte per second) transfer rate but one disadvantage to the newly released product is that it is 12.5 mm thick whereas other standard 2.5 inch drives 9.5 mm thick, thus meaning this will not be compatitble with all laptops......
