My friend was Elvis's roadie for a while. He decided to quite a couple of months before Elvis and the Attractions had a string of hits.He then got a job with Tom Petty and made some good cash anyway.Me--- I painted people walls, but in my heart I still rock. The late 70's was a good time to be in London

GREAT video, though, and a classic. Back in '78 (and beyond...) I wore out my vinyl copies of This Years Model.
I also couldn't get enough of My Aim is True, Armed Forces, Trust, and Get Happy!
Damn, I'm old...... -

The significance of that is that America didn't really know quite what to make of Elvis Costello at first. Elvis Presley wasn't quite cold in the grave and then here comes this new, different Elvis.... The Sex Pistols were kind of a freak show that made the news, but no airplay whatsoever over here -- except, of course, for college radio, which also had been playing My Aim is True as an import for months before it's domestic release (here in America, My Aim is True was released simultaneously with This Year's Model in March 1978. You got My Aim is True in June 1977 over on your side of the pond. During that time, the UK charts and BBC Radio 1 were dramatically different from Top 40 radio stations and the charts in the U.S.)....

Point is, I remember back in '77-'78 when Elvis had sort of a cult following due to exposure on college radio and a few more adventurous commercial FM rock stations over here....
Now, "Watching the Detectives", "Alison," "Pump It Up," etc have found their way onto the playlists of oldies, classic rock, and several other formats....
Yep, I'm getting old....
