I have little sympathy for these parents. They could have saved their daughter and gotten her life saving medical treatment. They could have taken her to an ER or a doctor to protect her life. Instead, they fell for the goofy nonsense that is religion and fell for the "laying on of hands." What should have happened is this girl should have gotten medical care. In my opinion, 25 years is not enough time in prison.

If an adult made the decision to refuse medical treatment it would be fine, but children are at the mercy of their parents. They have no rights. And if the government tries to step in they are accused of being socialist and interferring with religion. I think people should have religous freedom, but who should determine the limits?

I hope no one considers me a jerk for this comment but I don't think that God would have objected to a second opinion on the treatment that this young girl should have received. I understand that if you are religious that the love of God is important, but the love of Gods children is also important. Stories like this always leave me feeling terribly disappointed about how some people interpretate the scripture.

How on earth was her condition missed by so many people? Did that family live in a bubble? No teachers, or grandparents, or friends, or extended family to observe she was sick? No one knew her parents didn't believe in seeking medical treatment? Our society is so afraid of offending 'religions' that some nuts can use it as an excuse to literally get away with murder! If those parents hadn't 'used' religion, society would be calling for their heads. I haven't quite decided which is worse; the crazy parents, or our crazy society.

What happened to common sense, this religious nut let his daughter die for a absurd belief that she could get cured by a prayer,we humans have a survival safety system built in our brain its called common sense and when we use it we live, here is an example of how it works when you are in danger or feel pain whats the first thought that comes into your mind,am sure its not god ,when your thirsty you drink, when your cold you cover up,this idiot should have taken his kid to the hospital and then prayed that he had the common sense to do the right thing !
