WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As President Obama approaches 200 days in the White House, a new national poll shows his approval rating has dropped seven points since the 100-day mark in April.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Thursday morning also indicates that while just one in five Americans say that the current economic conditions are good, the number who feel the economy is in very poor shape is dropping.

Fifty-six percent of those questioned in the poll approve of how Obama is handling his duties as president. Four in 10 disapprove.

The 56 percent approval is down five percentage points from June, and represents a drop of seven points from the president's April showing. The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. figures are in line with numbers from most other national polls out the past few weeks. See the full results (pdf)

"Since April, Obama's rating has stayed steady among white women, but he has dropped 14 points among white men. A majority of white men supported him at the 100-day mark, but now most white men disapprove of how he is handling his job," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Obama has also slipped among non-whites, but he still gets support from over 70 percent of that group."

Terrible news as he only won about 54% of the popular vote. I do expect these numbers to dip into the 40's if healthcare dies but he isn't going to come anywhere near the 22% rating Bush once carried. Or the 35% Bush left office with...oh how soon we forget!

And I believe these town hall "meetings" are going to work very much in the Democrats favor over the long run. The true face of the GOP is showing. And it couldn't be more ugly. And its only going to look uglier. Let them act out. Any Democrat who joins the fray is making a serious mistake. Let Americans see for themselves what poor losers these people really are. It's not a movement, its a political party.

Obama's approval rating will continue to slide. An economic recovery without job creation is not going to happen. Our economy is going to continue to get worse. Obama, and all politicians for that matter, have avoided the root causes of our economic demise - trade agreements. These trade agreements are so lopsided that America is unable to compete with countries that have a minimum wage of $0.70 an hour. If job creation is to occur in the USA, then these politicians need to address the trade agreements and trade imbalance that will prevent any real economic recovery in the USA.

Leave it to CNN to spin this poll to their leftist agenda. Obama is a disaster. The entire country is going to need disaster relief when this guy is decimated in the 2012 election. Keep up the good work there, Liar in Chief! You are making our job easier with every passing day.

Sick. Obama is wrecking the country and liberals are worried granny is gonna hit them over the head with her cane at a townhall meeting. What a bunch of sissies. The only thing worse about Obama and his socialist policies is that he's a big sissy.

Personally, I believe Obama is doing a fantastic job! Coming into office going full throttle, his accomplishments will make the record books. I know the majority of the people have absolutely no idea how close we were to a depression and complete breakdown world wide. Of course the GOP will never approach that topic. They would rather talk trash, but then, that's all they ever did. After all, they took us down that road 9 years ago.
