Sotomayor OK'd for Supreme Court in historic vote »
Posted By jovial 4 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsWASHINGTON (AP) -- Sonia Sotomayor won confirmation Thursday as the nation's first Hispanic Supreme Court justice in a history-making Senate vote that capped a summer-long debate heavy with ethnic politics. She'll be sworn in Saturday as the court's 111th justice, third woman and first nominee by a Democrat in 15 years. The Senate vote was 68-31 to confirm Sotomayor, President Barack Obama's first Supreme Court nominee.

I feel for the Republicans/conservatives.
Reply
They lost a couple of seats in Congress in 2006...
McCain/Palin lost in November 2008...
They lost a Senate seat in Minnesota...
They're losing a governor and a senator, possible future contenders for higher office...
They lost the love of the American people...
And today they lost their bid to deny a woman to the Supreme Court...
Count out 2010 and 2012 for the Republicans/conservatives, too...the people of this country are smarter now... -

Great news? evidently you have not looked at her rulings record. A majority of her rulings WERE TURNED OVER BY THE SUPREME COURT, which she now hold a seat to. The Democrats are digging their own grave calling me a "organized GOP following" for attending the tea parties, or having the White House BEG for any emails conserning viable questions on health care to "find and destroy" Americans, the democrats will lose positions in the next few years. It was the INDEPENDENT voters who put them in office, not the DEMS, get your facts right, I suggest using your computer to look up the facts instead of listening to a liberal bias press.

That is right, and you know what? I am one of the indies who did not vote for either major party.
Know what else? If all of these non-sensical tea parties, disruptions of town halls, and idiotic claims by fringe people like the birthers continues, next election I will be voting for one of the major parties.
Guess what? It won't be the Reps.
It is high time for the intelligent Reps(I am sure there are at least a few) to stand up and tell those nutcases to STFU. -

A lie. Often spouted by the GOP, the party of lies. A 'majority' of her rulings that were brought before the supreme court (8 or 9 rulings, if I remember) were overturned. The vast majority of her rulings remain in force. That said, she fares above average compared to the other, current supreme court justices. If I remember correctly, the current head of the supreme court lost more cases in front of the supreme courth than she did. You have any critique for him?
Stop spreading lies.

Obama is the smartest terrorist of them all. His appointment of yet another knucklehead is par for the course. The more idiots in power the better. He's destroying this country without firing a shot. Obama and Biden make George Bush look like a rocket scientist.

A known racist judge has just been appointed for life to the supreme court and all you sick bastards can do is attack republicans and brag about what a great thing it is that she was appointed. Your comments about how great she is shows EXACTLY why America is on a downward spiral to hell.Is the total destruction of the country what you really want? Why do you want this?

The fire fighters in New Hampshire got the shaft from her. She wants to promote african americans and latinos, when in fact the more qualified are dumped on my affirmative action. The next thing is all her opinions will be in Spanish, press one!

FTA:
"Of the thousands of cases decided by Judge Sonia Sotomayor, the one that could have the most influence on her confirmation for the Supreme Court involves the defense of New York City Police Department employee who was fired for distributing bigoted and racist material.
Sotomayor’s opinion in the 2002 case of Pappas v. Giuliani does not seem like a judicial cause célèbre for progressives. But in the days since she was named Obama Supreme Court nominee, it has emerged as an effective counterweight to charges that she is a judicial activist bent on helping minorities like herself.
Those intimately involved in the case say that Sotomayor’s dissent — in which she defended the First Amendment rights of a employee who had distributed white supremacist material — shows a type of jurisprudence diametrically at odds with the caricature painted by her conservative critics."

Roberts, Alito and, most of all, Scalia--nonpartisans all! Worshipers of blind justice!

It's always about partisanship--just depends on whether your guy or gal is doing the judging.
I for one am extremely happy about Sotomayor's appointment. I look forward to her providing a much needed balance of opinion.
Because she's a woman. Because she came from poverty. Because she identifies with the downtrodden.
Not everyone wants the SC to make the world a safer and safer place for those who want most to make and protect money.
