"The liberal advocacy group Americans United for Change has released a new ad backing President Obama’s “plan to reform health care.” According to the ad, “a new poll shows that 62 percent of Americans support” the plan.
But that’s misleading.
The poll in question, conducted for Diageo/Hotline, didn’t ask respondents about a specific plan. Rather, it asked whether they supported or opposed a “major overhaul” of the health care system, without any specifics.
Diageo/Hotline Question: Do you support or oppose Congress and the President enacting a major overhaul of the U.S. health care system?
According to the results of the survey, 38 percent of respondents “strongly support” a major overhaul and 24 percent “somewhat support” it, for a total of 62 percent.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that while overhauling the health care system is one of Obama’s top priorities, he has laid out goals and parameters but has avoided committing to a specific “plan.”
At a town hall event on June 11, he laid out many of these principles, at the same time describing himself as “open-minded” and saying he was “happy to steal people’s ideas.”
Americans United for Change has said it’s spending “five figures” to buy air time for the ad on cable in Washington, D.C.
So Obama cheats on the poll results. That is one reason he is distrusted. The president is expected to be honest. -

"In his statement, Dingell described being confronted by a father who feared legislation would prevent his son who is has cerebral palsy from getting care."

"Unfortunately, he would not allow me an opportunity to respond to his concern," Dingell said. "I'm sorry that Romulus Police had to escort them out, but he left officers no choice. We had 200 people in the hall, more than 200 people outside, and we could not let one person take over that meeting."

That was supposed to say: This guy couldn't be too concerned about his son (assuming he really has one) since he couldn't muster the self control to talk to Dingell without having a screaming fit and getting hauled out by the police.

Personally, I'm a firm believer in freedom of screech. Now that public perception of their childish behavior is turning against them, they're crying fowl again. Poor Republicans, they just can't figure out what they're doing wrong.

There is an element of hypocrisy to all of this.

Were the single payor advocates who disrupted Baucus' phony hearings by speaking up for single payor "extremists?" Did they demonstrate the kind of awful behavior that good liberals decry? -

patriotic-Patriotism is defined as love of and/or devotion to one's country. The word comes from the Greek patris. However, patriotism has had different meanings over time, and its meaning is highly dependent upon context, geography and philosophy.

I'd hate to boast this, and would rather not be known as patriotic...as I feel it means I am closed to one train of thought. After all a flag or song didn't get me here.
