I was born and raised a Catholic. From day 1 that I had the ability to reason, I used to say: "Religion is the root of all evil."

look at all of the death that can be blamed on religion. (holy wars, Iraq, etc)
I do not mean to offend anyone. but, it is my opinion. and the last I checked, we are still a free country.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised at this; has the Catholic church EVER even attempted to help the victims of their 'wayward' priests? Their attitude, not only towards covering up for these pedophiles, but towards the victims, is disgusting, and definitely proves they don't practice what they preach.
