maybe they feel they no longer have to put any effort into it?

    (shrug)

'flame out' implies something different than what the article says.

heh heh heh... do i detect a longing for something with lots of splash? i mean the DNC had no problem firing off 9 notes about this group. sounds to me like they doth protest too much...

I do not see how the GOP can be more receptive to mainstream conservatives, independents, and swing voters when they continually bow to the angriest and most extreme members of their party. The amount of hate mongering emanating from their most ardent supporters have to be alienating most Americans. The polls support that hypothesis, as well.

When Senator Martinez from my state (Florida) crossed party lines to vote in favor of Judge Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation, the writing on the wall became more evident. Unlike Arlen Specter who switched parties after realizing that the GOP's platform no longer represented him, Martinez decided to drop out entirely.

I suspect that many mainstream conservatives can no longer in good conscience support a party that is now supporting hate mongering and incitement to violence. It is clear that moderate conservatives do not see a home in the GOP as it is now expressing itself.

The Republican party is missing an excellent opportunity. They should mount a national campaign claiming that they are NOT the "party of no" - but are rather the party of "HELL no!" And restate their original founding objectives of smaller government. At this point, it isn't difficult at all to point a "tax and spend" finger at the Democrats and HAVE IT STICK. People are ANGRY (regardless of Democratic denials, they really ARE) and I think that a LOT of Democrats could be flushed out of Congress in 2010 if someone will just tell the truth and SWEAR to abide by the Constitution.

You're doing a he%& of a job, Eric! Keep it up. Soon, you'll get that cushy job like Brown...er..., never mind.

Then again, I saw this train wreck coming when he had to bow and pay homage to Rush after his "listening tour" began. If this is the future of the Republican Party, they're toast.

      FTA:

"And Jeb Bush counseled his fellow Republicans “not to be nostalgic about the past.”

Good idea Jeb, since the past is what made the present happen.

Despite the backing of big names some Republicans have soured on the group. Some complained that it would dilute from the GOP message by adding another group to the party’s infrastructure.
      Thanks Deathray interesting story.

Yep both parties 'done went and got lost'.
By my last readings about the dirt on both parties the Democrats are now Chicago based Neo-Marxist Thugs while the Republicans, especially the older well dressed ones loudly bitching at their politicans in town hall meetings, are well dressed Neo-Nazis.

Long live freedom of speech and the two, three, four, or maybe five party system in the US.

right now its really hard to tell whose even in charge of the GOP.

and since obama took office the right seems only to be getting nuttier and more shrill as things continue to not go their way. the right has no ideas to help america, and the level headed conservatives are silent while the birthers and disruptors turn up the volume and become the voice of their party.

I see no signs of a rebranding effort, unless bitter and hateful is what the GOP is going for.
