Author Rita Kuehn has written a page-turning novel, taking readers for a roller-coaster ride as she twists and turns her way through protagonist Pearl’s desperate struggle to live with dignity and love. Set in 1989, PERIPHERAL VIEW is about family secrets, a sister who wants to control Pearl’s life, and Pearl’s desire for the freedom to pursue her own dreams. The sister, also a powerful senator, uses her power to keep Pearl—who has had epilepsy since childhood---institutionalized, at times wielding dangerous and near-fatal consequences to Pearl’s quest for independence.
