Stephen Hawking likes his "Death Panel" Health Care just fine, thanks »
Posted By Progressive 4 months, 2 weeks ago in Business & FinanceAfter his name surfaced in one of the most uninformed editorials ever—Investor’s Business Daily claimed that British citizen and Cambridge professor Stephen Hawking “wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K.” as a way of suggesting that President Obama’s health-care reform would kill “this brilliant man”—the world’s smartest man has weighed in. He endorsed the health-care system that, according to IBD, should have by now killed him. “I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for the NHS,” Hawking tells Talking Points Memo. “I have received a large amount of high quality treatment without which I would not have survived.”

I like how you guys continually say that the Dems aren't trying to pave the way to a single-payer system (like the UKs) yet you continue to submit story after story about how great single payer is.

And you wonder why people don't believe you when you say that Congress isn't trying to set up a system that will lead to a single payer system like the UK's NHS.-

I AM trying to pave the way to single payer, but would settle for a public option. I think there shouldn't be a profit entity between the patient and their doctor, at least as far as primary care goes. Now if someone wants a policy that pays for private hospital rooms or semi-elective surgery that's their business. BTW, health insurance companies in Europe do quite well selling these sorts of policies.

What's wrong with a single payer system is that in this country, the US, the Federal government does not have the power to institute it without an amendment.

I'm not saying they won't do it anyway, only that they are circumventing the process.
And I know we have a corrupt political system, that's why I don't want that very same system CONTROLLING MY HEALTH CARE.
Jesus, can you people get your talking points straight?
I'm all for regulating the insurance industry and setting some minimum standards, etc. That's well within the bounds of the Federal Government. What I don't want is the government being an active participant in the market because that LIMITS choice.
Single payer = no choice unless you're filthy rich. So not only would I have no choice, I have to pay extra for a massive bureaucracy that isn't supposed to exist in the first place.

I like the single payer system, been enrolled for sixty yeare.I raised my children single payer, paid my mortgage, single payer, purchased health insurance fifty years ago, single payer. For those who can afford, buy it,for those who are in the country illegally leave now,we don't need you,and we sure don't want you.The president could easily find a way to insure the other ten, twelve million. The money the illegals cost this nation every year would insure fifty million uninsured. However so many American cheats who depend on this cheap, none taxed labor will suffer, and I hate that.
