As things stand right now, if Grandma doesn't have health insurance then she gets very minimal (or no) health care.

Socialized medicine in the countries that have it works well if people have no serious problems. They limit how many doctors can become specialists. Therefore access to them takes a lon time and many people die before getting treatment. When people get older they do not have the strength to wait very long for treatment. Look at the cancer treatment results in this country and the others with socialized medicine and you will see a very significant difference in cure rates. Same with other life threatening difficult problems.

In other words the end result is grandma would be left to fend for herself for too long. Just hang her out to die because she could not get timely treatment.
