Dementia Praecox was coined schizophrenia around 1890...and there is evidence that the external caused an induced psychosis labeled by many as schizophrenia. Don't be too quick to treat something that is external...taking pills that effect the internal, as I beat this with the vA myself, with the help of CCHR Citizen's Commission for Human Rights.

Tinnitus is not a disease but a symptom resulting from a range of underlying causes that can include ear infections, foreign objects or wax in the ear, nose allergies that prevent (or induce) fluid drain and cause wax build-up, and injury from loud noises. Tinnitus can also be caused by hearing impairment and as a side-effect of some medications. Some cases of tinnitus are medically unexplained.[3]

Tinnitus is usually the first symptom...and why some cases are medically unexplained is try the NSC and NSA.-

While some other problems may be misdiagnosed as schizphrenia, there is true paranoid schizophrenia. My mother has suffered from it for over 35 years. She must have her medicine or she can become erratic or dangerous to herself or others. With medicine (that has to be adjusted periodically) she lives a reasonably normal life. When her medicine is not working, her delusions are very real to her. I truly doubt that any treatment other than drugs would be effective in true schizophrenia.

Well my name says it all. yes I have Schizophrenia. In full it is called Chronic Paranoid Schizophrenia. I take medications just like the rest only some people start to feel better and stop taking medications and the severe symptoms that the medication would have been taking care of. Henceforth they are again hospitalized. Another thing is don't drink alcohol while on medications it makes everything worse. It makes not function like the other people you are with who have drank the same amount as you. I've relapsed three times since being diagnosed in 1999. All three times I had to be EPC'd to a pyciatric ward or hospital. The medication that is working the best for me is Geodon and Zyprexa. I still have issues mentally but its to the point that the people I'm with wouldn't even notice. Its not fun to have but hey I got it so inturn I have to except it. And I have. Myself and my Phyciatrist have a great relationship. She's been my phyciatrist ever since I got out of a mental intitution in March of 2000. She's the best doctor I could ask for. We each trust eachother and I can talk to her and tell her how things are going so the approriate action can take place. That's due to the trust issue. It sucks having it but hey I'm in recovery.

Thanks, its refreshing to read articles on brain ailments and include possible solutions for those suffering from such scarey disorders and diseases! i too have a family member who suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia! During his manic episodes of hearing voices, and truely believing everyone is trying to... "hurt him"?!has gotten to the point where he becomes a danger to himself and anyone around him and he refuses to take his medication! i am the only one in the family who can get through to him when he is in a caotic state of complete madness! my family : my mom and dad had 4 kids.2 boys and two girls! i am the second oldest. i have a older brother, me, then my younger brother with the ailment, then sister.they all have disowned him and refuse to claim him as a family member most of the time?! He is getting more violent and i wished there waz someplace he could live on his own but be under care, where he would be given his medication everyday instead of on his own! Because, he doesnt take it unless somebody stays ontop of it everyday!Im becoming fearful for him living with our mother alone! But she's trapped on what & where she could put him?! there isnt anyplace for people like him and still be somewhat independant? When he DOES take his medication..he is just as normal and kind as everyone else!we have come to a crossroad with this diliema! any suggestions?PLEASE!!?

What area are you in? I am in NY and my family has mental health issues and they have group homes where they can place your brother where he will be watched and cared for by staff....who knows maybe you can find out how to start a program like that in your area....

Snowwhite, I live in Ohio. My mother is a paranoid schizophrenic, lives independently in her own apartment, but gets a lot of help from our local mental health agency. Every week she goes to a place called Community Support to get her med box filled. She then has a caseworker that checks on her 3 days a week to make sure she is taking her meds as well as giving her rides to the grocery store and various appointments. On the off days that her mental health caseworker is not checking on her, my mom has a home health aid that comes to her home and makes sure she is taking the meds as well as tidying up her apartment and what not. I HIGHLY encourage you to check with your local mental health agency to see what resources are available for your brother, you might be surprised at what is available. If you cannot get help through your local agency, try going one county over and see if you get better results. I know it is very difficult to watch a loved one suffer with this chronic illness, but help is out there and you are not alone, Good Luck

I have a son who is brilliant and was studying to be a Dr. At 19 he developed Schizophrenia. In Mass. he lives at home and I have a state provided nurse that comes in every day at 7:30Am and gives him his meds. He is fine while on Meds and I have to hospitalize him periodically. He does not work but is now going to school . It is heartbreaking . I have 5 children and the other 4 are fine. 2 of them kind of shun him the other 2 would do anything for him. God bless anyone who has it and the mother who lives with this heartache.
