Obama Trounces Palin in Poll »
Posted By Newperson 4 months, 1 week ago in Political OpinionYes, it is far too early to be polling potential 2012 matchups. They are nearly meaningless at this stage (and for the next several stages) of the game. But in the doldrums of August, these poll numbers are far too much fun to resist. The Marist Poll is out with new numbers today showing President Obama soundly defeating former Gov. Sarah Palin 56 percent to 33 percent if they were the candidates in the 2012 election and if it was strangely held in August 2009.She appears unable to create the near monolithic support among voters in her own party.51 percent believe stepping down from office the way she did may have potentially damaged her political future.

Of course Obama trounces Palin...that's a no-brainer...
Reply
But put Obama up against Romney, or another (and not Jeb Bush...big brother ruined the family name for years to come...no one wants another Bush) then we could see a battle...
If Obama has any trouble getting the economy going again (doubtful) or healthcare reform stagnates this year (possible), then Obama might have a slight problem come 2012, but it also depends on 2010, and how many new seats the Democrats might be able to take in Congress. -

Jeb?!! Spare me. He was the governor of my state. I hate that man. He's only SLIGHTLY smarter than his dunce brother George! Good luck with that one!

The only thing Romney has going for him is his matinee idol good lucks and pretty smile. That's what got Reagan elected. Go figure. -

Notice how this MSM illiterate compares Palin's 73% GOP support as a HYPOTHETICAL, NON-CANDIDATE to John McCain's 90-plus % as the ONLY GOP CANDIDATE AGAINST OBAMA. Talk about apples and oranges. (The comparison is valid, but NOT the conclusion he draws from it.)
Reply
He also fails to point out that McCain's support went UP with Palin on the ticket (myself included...was going to abstain until she was picked).
And, I'm sorry...who just sent Obama's ass sqawlin back to Michelle for a wittle bitty bed time stowy to make him feel awll bedul ???? Ahhhh...there, there, wittle Bawack... -

The Dems must really be frightened by Palin. It seems that the incessant attempts to damage her credibility would point to that. Keep up the good work libs! You know that you guys have a tough row to hoe come 2010 and 2012. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Frightened? You can't be serious? Why would we be frightened of someone who has proven herself to be dumber'n a box a rocks? You righties are really challenged but I guess you'd go for anything with a skirt on it so long as she'd ride in your pickemup truck and listen to country music with ya.

It sounds like Dumbocrats are worried already about who will boot out the Marxist goofball that we have in there right now.

I would be worried too if i were a Dumbocrat.
But I'm not.
And I'm not.
After 3 more years of Obamanomics America would elect Peewe Herman over the Marxist wannabe. -

I remember similar polls 4 years ago that showed the republican candidate would beat the democratic candidate in the general election. Here on propeller, many held those polls as proof of the certainty of a GOP win in 2008. I suppose in their alternate universe it actually happened but in the reality-based world Obama won by a wide margin.
Reply
Goes to show that the early polls don't mean too much. Since the far right is doing their utmost to marginalize the whole party, a more centrist candidate may not be able to secure the nomination, and an extremist candidate will not have a chance against an incumbent president.
Barring domestic terrorism, I think Obama's chances should be excellent because the same voices that proclaimed a McCain victory will be looking into their broken crystal ball and making more wrong predictions of victory. Sure thing, and the check's in the mail...-

Some good points, but I'd take issue with some of the vocabulary. Prez O did not win by a "wide margin." Electoral vote wise it was significant enough; but he won --what?-53% of the popular vote. In my lifetime, I've heard a third term victory for a Senator with 55% of the vote described as "uncomfortably close."

When the time comes, Palin will blow Obama away. By then, the too proud to admit they were wrong Obama supporters will finally admit that they were duped. It will be time for a real change. If we make it then. Still a lot of Obama turmoil yet to come.
