Who Would Jesus Insure? »
Posted By RickyDawkins 3 months ago in Political OpinionIf Jesus Christ returned to Earth, would he advocate free medical care for the poorest and sickest among us? "Yes, he would," said a pleasant, Jesus-placard-toting man...
It was an unusually hot day in downtown San Francisco, and Justin Herman Plaza was swarming with hundreds of "mad as hell and not going to accept the results of last fall's election anymore" wingnut faithful -- not the thousands that KSFO radio host and marquee speaker Brian Sussman would claim on the air a few hours later, but a robust gathering just the same, pumped up on rabble-rousing rhetoric, pimped out in coordinated red shirts and witty placards, and above all ticked off; their very palpable anger, lacking a living, breathing, stammering, backpedaling town hall-cornered Democratic legislator to focus on, floating instead amorphously around the open plaza, looking for an animating principle and finding it in the inevitable Republican focus here in these first days of the Obama Age: the word "NO."

There was a time when God was meaner than we mortals.
Reply
When someone asked St. So-and-so, why God condemned
unbaptised babies to hell, the saint replied "The almighty
is required to do things in his office as Judge, that He would
not do as Father".
This has changed.
Most people would agree that Jesus would take the side
of the poor, the voiceless, the sick and the old and
always the children, against the rich and powerful.
But that's just Him;
- and He's lots nicer than we are. -

You have to understand that the modern Republicans have no care about Jesus and or any other deity of their choice says They make a mockery of their religions, especially the right wing nuts with respect to Christianity. I have no idea of why they go to church. Maybe it's for show

There are those who would say that about damn near everyone in every religion. Hell, the person who submitted this article for that matter.

And any Christian would tell you that Jesus would not support any healthcare plan as he would just heal the sick... -

You have just provided for all to see the standard by which you will be judged. I don't know too many Christians who are willing to stand accountable for knowing how to live better than all other Christians, so good luck with that.

I suggest you and your friends go to med school, raise money for your free care hospital, donate whatever it takes mind you, and provide it to the world at no cost. Get back to me when you have it going so i can stop by and use it.

Tell us why it costs money to go to medical and nursing school? Why does it cost money to develop new drugs? Why does it cost money to go to the hospital and to receive treatment? If health care is not suppose to be for profit then how do you propose you'll ever have health care. Who's going to treat you for free? If all these things are donated then how will doctors, nurses and others feed their families? Like most liberals you fail to really think your stupid proposals through.

So, bottom line, let's pass a damn health care bill already. A real one, with a public option, or at least as close as Senators Baucus and Conrad will deign to permit the other three hundred million of us to to enjoy. No, the recalcitrant side of the aisle won't vote for it, and no, we shouldn't care. We should pass the best possible bill via reconciliation and ignore both Republicans' crocodile sobbing about Democratic unilateralism and tee-bagger invective about socialism this, Communism that, and whatever other detritus emerges from those poor bastards' collective post-President-Moron minority-party psychosis. We need to pass the bill and take our lumps if need be, let the fair-and-balanced pundits blather about liberal overreaching and the conservative comeback, even let the GOP pick up a few House seats in fall 2010 if it comes to that. Just please, please, let's pass the damn bill. -

Jesus would ask you to give to CHARITY, I highly doubt he would support being forced by government to give over your personal property.
Which is why conservatives are notoriously more giving to charity than liberals who would prefer the government forcibly take your property from you.-

No one had insurance back then and the poor had Jesus who would bring them back from the dead, feed the multitudes, heal their leprosy, etc., etc.
Reply
Unfortunately we do not have Jesus amongst us today so everyone needs a good insurance that they won't run the risk of losing because of preexisting conditions and ... so they won't run the risk of losing everything they own. -

Jesus taught to HELP everyone that needs it, REGARDLESS of who they are.

Read the parable of the sheep and the goats.
The ONLY people Jesus criticized were the religious leaders of his day.
The "stupid" around these parts are the people who wear the name of "christian" while saying and doing many things that are the total OPPOSITE of what Christianity means or stands for. -

Jesus would never want to discriminate between the rich and poor; He would want all people to be able to receive the best care possible without exception. But, then again, some people have given Jesus a new persona. Their "Jesus" blesses the wealthy and condemns the poor.

When Jaerus' daughter fell ill, it was the Jews themselves who said to Jesus, "You should do this for him since he built our synagogue."
Jesus was not picky about this Roman's daughter or ten leper outcasts by the side of the road. At the end of his ministry, he was condemned and crucified by the same hypocrites who condemned those Christ healed and who presented themselves to the temple priests at Christ's request.
So tell us honestly...how is Christ likely to react to a crowd of godless misfits who do nothing but mock and ridicule him (vis-a-vis his followers if not directly), then for pure political sport trot out their faux spirituality to score points on the exact same health care denied the unborn?
Who exactly do you amoral freaks think you're fooling? The sure knowledge that every church on the planet is full of nothing but hypocrites will not spare you--collectively--the wrath reserved for those who claim to know something or other about him; that is, when you're not referring to him as her.

And what about the 66% of INDEPENDENTS the ones who ACTUALLY put Obama in office, who don’t want Obama to do ANYTHING with the health care system?
“Rasmussen reports
Aug 15 2009
54% Say Passing No Healthcare Reform Better Than Passing Congressional Plan.
“Among those not affiliated with either major party (INDEPENDENTS) , 23% would like the Congressional reform to pass while 66% would rather the legislators take no action.”
“One reason that the President has been careful to distinguish between his idea of health care reform and a single payer system is that just 32% favor Single-Payer health care while 57% are opposed”.

“Just please, please, let's pass the damn bill.”
Uhm what “Bill”?
There is NO SINGLE bill to pass.
Your advocating passing a blank piece of paper call “Health Care Reform” and worrying about those pesky details later?
Seriously are you an idiot? -

They say Jesus would just cure the sick, and who needs insurance; so that answer to the question is irrelevant in this world. IMHO, not true. Jesus is not here. Some believe he'll come back; but in the meantime, it's up to us. There seem to be two views on this: (1) the Deity intervenes on a regular basis to make some of us well-off and other not-so-much. With this view, there's no point in doing anything for the poor because that's where God wants them to be. In this view, forget insurance and leave the rich alone: God loves them (and only them.) (2) the Deity is watching and judging to see what we have learned from the gift of his son. The idea is to emulate the man-god. So WWJD? is really what should we do? If Jesus would cure the sick, then we should cure the sick. Would Jesus have denied Lazarus because of his pre-existing condition? We all have a pre-existing condition.
Reply
BTW, I would associate view (1) with the anti-healthcare camp and (2) with the pro-healthcare camp. Me? I'm for (2). You? -

The First thing Jesus would do, is to teach us how to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. With that alone, will solve most of our Problems. Then He would show us how to EAT and LIVE according to the Mosaic Law,and that will take care of AIDS, Hearth Disease, High Blood Pressure, Obesity and Lung Cancer. What little sickness there would be left, he would HEAL. That Jesus sounds like a pretty good fellow.

The right wing have become completely divorced from Matthew 25. Especially 33-40. I'll bet most of these self-proclaimed conservative Christian Republicans who can point me to Leviticus 18:22 and/or 20:13, would not be able to tell me what Jesus said about how we should treat the poor...
I believe no one - no matter who they are - should go hungry, live without shelter, or be denied basic health care (and I don't mean when one is at death's door in the ER). These are Christian principles. This is human compassion (Remember? What Jesus tired to teach us?)
Remember, not all Christians are right-wing attendees of mega-churches.... And for me and many other followers of the teachings of Christ, it is a MORAL IMPERATIVE that the United States of America has universal health care....-

That you imagine parity in Christ's admonitions on a personal level with politics on a national level speaks volumes for your inability to interpret scripture, whether Matthew or Leviticus.
We can discuss the finer points of War And Peace, but you have to learn the alphabet first. No, I'm not saying I'm the least bit brighter than you. But if you don't understand what is in reality a very simple distinction to make, I do have to respectfully question your standing to make the points you have attempted to put forth.

When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, the onlookers fell into two distinct groups.
Reply
1. Those who praised God.
2. Those who went off to plot Christ's death.
I think we all know which group the baby killers would have nicely fit into. The mere thought that they deign to lecture Christians as to their Christian spirituality--and then only for THEIR temporal political expediency--is nauseating.
