Wing-Nut Mobs Provide Cover for Obama/Baucus Health Care Betrayal »
Posted By jovial 3 months, 1 week ago in Political OpinionIn the final analysis, the ideological differences between Republicans and the corporate/controlling sector of the Democratic party are relatively narrow and insignificant as compared to the bi-partisan link to corporate wealth and power --- a link both share with the corporate-owned, mainstream media.

The behind the scenes controlling lobbyist's in this country don't care much about public opinion. That's because they know they have a firm grip on the politicians in this country. The constitution read now as "We the corporations..." not "We the people..."

The Constitution was written as a contract between the government and the people.
Reply
The problems we are facing today are a direct result of the government breaching that contract in several areas over the course of nearly a century.
Health Care is one of them.
This isn't a matter of who it was written for, it is a matter of doing what it says. If you want to add Health Care to the powers of the Federal Government, there's only one way to do it: An Amendment. Making end runs around that process leads to the problems we face today. -

Remember the President's words: "Any plan I sign must include an insurance exchange: a one-stop shopping marketplace where you can compare the benefits, cost and track records of a variety of plans - including a public option to increase competition and keep insurance companies honest - and choose what's best for your family." Withdrawing his promise to fight for the public option has angered millions of Obama supporters. Has the President lost his way in the gauntlet laid down by special interests?

spade -- My impression is that Prez O has mismanaged this from the start--legislative inexperience showing through. There are many people out there who have been screwed by insurance companies and presumably would be happy not to see the same happen to someone else. Prez O chose not to address these "behavioral issues" in a seperate forum, which may have had very wide support. Instead he tied them to gether wilth a gamiche of other issues including improved access to insurance. You make lots of proposals, you create lots of targets.

I'm not going to say that the money that the insurance companies spread around had no effect. But I think that with proper legislative management the effect could have been nullified a lot more than it was. And, just as I sit here, I realize that our VP Joe Biden has not (ever to my knowledge) been mentioned in relation to this effort. Has he been exiled to the moon or something? Hard to believe that he couln't have been of some help with this.

Nope.
He has always been a pro-business, pro-imperialist "new democrat" who panders to liberals with his words and to corporations with his actions.
His public-option two-step is just more of the same. -

i only wish nader were a viable option. the same forces arrayed against health care reform (BIG money), will also resist, with similar force, any talented third party candidate.

i know...i worked on nader's 1996 campaign and voted for him in 2000. the republicrats are a monopoly and a political brick wall.
only public outrage can solve the dual problems of campaign financing and health care reform. -

I'm with you Newperson, I haven't given up on Obama but he sure is making it hard for us to defend him. But the legislative package is still proceeding and things can change. The final bill may indeed include a public option and regulations for private insurers to follow for the benefit of their policy holders.

First, Obama has to get off this we have to be inclusive with the Republicans schtick. It doesn't do any good and as Grassley said even if they do come to an agreement, if there aren't at least 4 Republicans with the program he will vote against his own bill. He knows the only way they could possibly get 4 Republican votes is for Obama to promise to step down from the Presidency and put in Grassley himself. So he's covering his politiical ass.

Second, get rid of the protesters. Use G. Bush Jr.'s handbook for protesters. Keep them out of sight just as they did to the single payer rallies held around this nation and got no airplay at all.
Third, never back down on anything. If you said it, and you got elected by saying it, then you better do your darndest to make it happen.
Fourth, get out of the box. Don't spend all day listening to your advisors. Listen to the people that elected you.
Fifth, Prosecute the Bush/Cheney cabal to the fullest extent of the law. Stop playing politics with the law and let the chips fall as they may. A well informed public can help you make popular decisions. -

So why would anyone in their right mind want SOCIALIZED MEDICINE in the US? If our elected officials are so money and power hungry, might your health suffer rather than improve? Get real people!
Reply
The federal government has absolutely NO business mucking around in the health care industry - NO BUSINESS. What are your skulls plated with that common sense cannot penetrate? The public in favor of nationalized health care are looking for freebies, politicians are looking for votes, and the recipients of said health care will be more treated as serfs, will be dealt with like at their DMV and welfare offices.I am not in favor of any reform - I am in favor of the feds getting as far away from health care as we can ship them.
