I've been in a private label jean business for sometime now and I have a few tips that I want to share. Hopefully you will find my tips helpful.

The bottom line of opening your own private label is to make profit as much as possible. One way is by keeping your production cost low. How? Produce your jeans outside the US. I outsourced my private label jean to China and it costs me around $10 per jeans. If you search "jeans manufacturers" in any search engine, I'm pretty sure that you can find quite a handful in the US. At first, I was going to make my jeans in the US because it's more convenient. But after I compared the production cost in the US to in China, the costs difference is at least $10. Then I started finding out more information about producing jeans in China.

One day I went to someone's blog and he mentioned about using jeans agent when you outsource your jeans production. I searched for jeans agent in the US and I found Jeans By you (www.JeansByYou.com). This is the perfect solution especially if you have no friend in China, can't speak Mandarin, not planning to go to China, and if you are afraid of being scammed by Chinese manufacturers. So I went ahead and used their service. I've never known the manufacturer that produce my jeans, but all of my private label jeans are made in China. If I want to produce a new model, usually I send them my designs, photos of jeans, or actual jeans that I want to produce. Several days later, they will get back to me with all of the information such as the cost per jeans, production time, and etc. The provide jeans sample prior to final production, that way you can check the quality of the jeans.

If you don't like it, you can ask them to make changes. Once you've approved the sample, the manufacturer will proceed with the final production. I'm not worried with the final product because it's going to look exactly like the jeans sample. They accept PayPal, L/C, Escrow, and wire transfer.

If you claim you have a private label brand, you need to show a proof to ensure that you're not copying someone else's design. Otherwise, your jeans will be held by Chinese customs and your country's customs.

If your private label jean will have custom buttons, rivets, or label with your logo/design on it, be prepare to pay some extra money for the mold. The manufacturer needs to make a mold just for your design and cannot be used by others. This is a one-time charge. For your next purchases, you only have to pay for the jeans.

Usually minimum order is 100 pieces. Very few manufacturers want to produce 100 pieces or less. If they do, the cost per jeans will be much higher. Keep in mind, the more quantity you order, the cheaper the cost per jeans will be. If you order 10,000 jeans, usually they will not charge you the label fee.
