Bush needs to go to jail and give up everything he owns along with his cohorts like Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.-

Bush bilked the United States out of enough money during his last term to buy thousands of acres in S America, over the largest aquafir in the world.. Behind every scheme there's a plan, and becoming wealthy enough to own that piece of property was his plan, because he knew he was approving the destruction of our waterways here in America!

You mean deny unfounded rumors, hear-say and innuendo? Shouldn't everyone be skeptical of such things? Well, unless you are an Obama-supporter.
If Ridge says it, how can it be unfounded?
It's not rumors, hearsay, or innuendo. He was there...he should know. -

The heightened terror alerts always seemed to come at opportune times for the Bush administration. After a while, it was a commonly held belief among many that the terror alert system was a joke because it was timed to favor Bush politically.

So many things we suspected about Bush's administration has started to spill into the public arena from those on the inside trying to make a buck and come clean. I think this steady trickle of information will turn into a stream. -

Lies were Dubya's only chance to win the election, or at least get close enough to flip votes and make it arguable. The greatest of his many wars was Bush's war on the truth. And let's not forget Rove's contribution to 8 years of lies.

So now I guess we'll get to hear Rush, Beck, and other far right talking heads hiss that Ridge isn't a Republican. Character assassination is their typical response when the truth is not on their side.-

The Bush family single handedly destroyed the republican party. I hope it was worth it for them. If the republicans of this country would wake up and realize what that family has done, with the help of the likes of Rove, Cheney, Rummy and Rush, they may rethink their choices. However the majority of them are so blinded by the words, liberal vs conservative, they lost sight of what is in the best interest of the country.

Right now, if health care reform had been Bushies objective, they would be screaming their heads off in favor of it, instead, they will shoot themselves in the foot before they will support a liberal doing anything! They're liars, and they love liars, that's the bottom line! -

skyking, that's how W prayed on the elderly, he had them scared to death that if he wasn't elected president, a Democrat was going to let OBL or Saddam come to America and eat their first born. It's a shame these people don't have a viable candidate, so they have to use scare tactics, but what's even worse is that there's people, young and old that fall for these manipulations!

"That said, I don't really think it would have mattered... We're talking about John Kerry here. Seriously."

Don't want to address the fact that the Republicans used fear to win an election, huh?
Why not? If this came out about the Democrats, you'd undoubtedly be all over it. So why not be an adult and admit that this is just pathetic and wrong? Why ignore it, and pretend it doesn't matter?

Bush was a slimeball that destroyed and allowed the greedy to break this country's back. Now with many millions out of work, and no sign of stopping Bush's train wreck, details come out how Bush abused his authority. If you ask me, a full investigation needs to be launched into the Bush Presidency and any criminal activity uncovered and prosecuted.

The ACTUAL person whose job it was to raise the terror alert level ADMITS OUT LOUD that he raised the level to help Bush win and it is hearsay? What ASSES you right-wingers are. By you very own "reasoning" all murderers are convicted of less than hearsay because they didn't confess.

I'm not buying his book. He should have come clean when it mattered. He just confirmed what many knew already. The Bush administration was morally corrupt to the core. I think they f*cked this country in more ways than can be counted. It's a gift that will keep on giving (Kinda like Ronnie Raygun's corrupt administration.)

I agree that Ridge should have come right out and told Bush/Cheney to stop politicizing the Homeland Security department. But Ridge was playing by the Republican rules at the time, which said that no Republican should speak ill of a fellow Republican.

I'm glad that he spoke out, but its too little, too late. -

BAck then Ridge was saying something different, "Dave Weigel, writing for the Washington Independent, notes that in the past, Ridge has denied manipulating security information for political reasons. In 2004, for example, he said, "We don't do politics in the Department of Homeland Security."
Reply
But I agree, if this was true he should have told us it was why he was resigning, and even if he would have stayed in that job he should have told the American people then, it was his duty to tell us the truth about our safety. This coming out now, after being denied for so long, makes me wonder what office Ridge is planning on running for that makes him think this is the way to get the left to vote for him. Could be wrong, but it does make one wonder why he lied before, and why he should be believed now and not then. Have no idea which time he was telling the truth, but I do know that one of the two has to be a lie, now which one do we believe, and why

Using FEAR to control people is a leadership style. Scare the masses into dependency on the government for protection. Hitler offers us a great example of using fear to control. It worked for Hitler, it worked for Bush. And once again the Republicans are trying to use fear to to stop health care reform. Obama isn't using SCARE TACTICS he is coming to the people and asking everyone to share in the decision making. It seems the Bush administration wth the help of con talk radio has indoctrinated the republican followers to only act and respond to fear. This is causing havoc among the people- fear leads to frustration, anger, violence feeings of being a victim. Very sad state of affairs.

I am not saying that this didn't happen, but if Ridge was pressured into raising the terror level, why did he either refuse, quit or blow the whistle?

All these people who are coming out two or three, five years later to further trash the former administration (or any other former employer) are somewhat suspect to me.
People this high up in the adminstration (even Bush's) are likely to have people falling all over themselves waving job offers should they walk away -- so why put up and collude with the behavior you later decide is despicable?
It says as much (if not more) about their character as it does the administration. -

We,American citizens have a duty and responsibility to hold the highest office responsible for any and all wrong doings. We need to start "United Americans for a United America" campaign. If nothing comes of this I suggest we file a lawsuit against the administration personnel.

I knew that was exactly what was going on. Now that Tom has come forward we have a defendent. -
