It is high time that the Dems and Obama get off the dime and shove it up the Repub's smarmy arses! Bipartisanship, cooperation, compromise, civility, honesty, care for the people are all words that do not exist for the Republicans. When the Repubs were in control of congress they totally marginalized the Dems and would not allow them to do anything.
Reply
Well, we won! We control congress and the white house. C'mon Obama, get off the goody goody ideas and tell the Repubs to shut the "F" up. We're doing it without you! If the Repubs keep up the lies and smears, maybe Obama will finally get the message. I didn't vote for him to be a ball less piece of milque toast! -

Save for Olympia Snow and Susan Collins from Maine, there are none left! After purging all the other moderates, the Republicans have become a party of extreme wingnuts! It is no longer 1994, but they haven't realized it yet. They'll pay in the next two elections cycles, you'll see...

CBO, the non-partisan budget office, came in with the real numbers, the plan died.
Reply
Now, it will come back, I think, in a very minor, watered-down fashion at the end of the year. But the overhaul of this economy — of 1/6 of this economy — that Obama has promised will not hold up.
It's because at the beginning he said what he's going to do is expand coverage and reduce costs. A nine-year-old could tell you that can't be done, and the CBO has shown why it can't be done…
The reason people are soured on all of this is because of the disingenuousness. We hear the president say that the public option is not a government takeover, and all it's about is keeping the insurance companies honest. Those are his words.
Then we hear an important Democrat in the House [Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank] say that the public option is the way to get single-payer, meaning a government system, as in Canada. That's the only way to do it.
And of course, everybody who listens to this understands that if you have a public option with endless subsidies out of the federal treasury, it will defeat and destroy all the private insurance, and we're going to end up like a British or Canadian system.
Why can't liberals understand this?-

I find it disingenuous that the right would seize a statement made by Barney Frank months ago, while HR 3200 was still being written, upon which to propagate their paranoia. I'm sure even Congressman Frank realizes at this point that a single payer system is merely wishful thinking on the part of liberals.
Reply
There is no doubt that, had the previous administration not invaded and occupied Iraq, there would have been sufficient funds to implement HR 3200 and expand coverage to all Americans during the period of Bush's "war on terror". To be sure, the bill would result in some increased costs initially, but the current healthcare system is unsustainable and those who are satisfied with the insurance they have now are in for a rude awakening if health insurance reform is not accomplished this year. -

A) Your sudden respect for the CBO is a joke because when you were cautioned regarding the potential dire consequences of Bush's spending for war and tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy cons YAWNED.
Reply
B) You people make me want to PUKE preaching about disingenuousness. How DARE you lecture anyone about dishonesty after the last 8 years ALONE?!
C) You greedy cons... You won't even PRETEND that you have a soul or that you understand how twisted you are when you grovel for more money to bomb and shoot people--while shrinking away in fear at the idea of spending money to insure your fellow Americans. That you think what makes America great is our ability to bully the rest of the world show how warped cons are. You must be stopped in your quest for your next tax cut at the expense of American lives. Cons must be stopped.
D) Your fear mongering is going to be the destruction of the GOP. Unlike cons, intelligent people have been to Canada and Europe before and we are not paranoid and fearful of everyone that isn't white or doesn't look, speak, or think as we do. You hillbillies are an extreme embarrassment and you will FAIL the way you always do. I personally will devote my life to destroying cons. I had no idea how dangerous you people are until this past year. Cons are malicious and mindlessly destructive. Your agenda must be derailed. Permanently. ;-P

Everything changes over time.

Republican, Conservative ... whatever ... perspectives change over time.
In the 60's, for me, Democrats were 'pie-in-the-sky' idealists. It was always very difficult to talk with them .. at least for me. It's like they were from a different planet ... or talking a different language. Quite often, I was embarrassed for them.
In the 60's, for me, Republicans were the picture of rectitude. Maybe a little stodgy, and usually a bit prone to ridicule towards new ideas.
Over time, this has all changed ... until we have today.
NOW ... Democrats have absolutely NO idealism - they seem to be very pragmatic about making things work - including government.
For instance, if this were the 60's, there is NO WAY ... that Democrats would have considered dropping the Public Health Insurance from Insurance Reform. But today, they are all about getting things moving forward, pragmatic.
By CONTRAST ... Republicans are like screaming banshees ... and have NO idea about how to make government work.
In fact, making government work is actually CONTRARY to their campaign slogans ... such as ... "Government IS the problem" ... so ... it's like a Self Fulfilling Prophecy. Quite often, I'm not only embarrassed for them, I'm shocked at their insanity.
It's like the two party's have swapped mind-sets.
But ... this happens.

I think the Democrats should just push their plan through ... with as much force as possible.
Reply
Because, the Modern Republican is simply not interested in the Democratic Process. They are all about 'sound-bytes' ... 'labels' ... 'PR' ... in short ... they are as phony as a $3 bill.
Push Health Care Insurance Reform through ... and some day in the future, there will be a change in spirit.
Right now ... they are being completely controlled by foreign agents. .... you know ... FOX-Jezeerah ... the foreign owned media conglomerate.

"In his thoughtful analysis, Eric Alterman argues that President Obama has never been under any illusions about Washington Republicans’ intransigence, and that his call for bipartisanship is a win-win: Either he will win enough Republicans to claim a bipartisan victory or he will have justification for going it alone."

Sounds about right to me. It's getting close to becoming that time to run through the Republican blockade and pass a meaningful health care reform bill. Because the Republicans will continue to move the goal post further down the field every time the Democrats play partisanship. -
