Social Security Checks Shrink for Millions »
Posted By Tumultuous 4 months, 1 week ago in Political News(AP) Millions of older people will face shrinking Social Security checks next year, the first time in a generation that payments would not rise.
The trustees who oversee Social Security are projecting there won't be a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for the next two years. That hasn't happened since automatic increases were adopted in 1975.

Unless they change the funding process, you and I (I began receiving SS three years ago) will probably break even or gain (in inflated currency, of course). It's our children and grandchildren who will be real losers (being a Ponzi pyramid scam, SS probably won't survive unless we open the borders to millions of immigrant workers).

The government has spent the money in the make-believe SS fund to current recipients and general fund projects. What we have contributed just doesn't exist; our SS checks must come from current SS contributory suckers. (I considered myself a sucker all the years I contributed; now I have become the vampire that sucks the lifeblood of the current contributors.)

The SS problems were not caused by President Obama.

We have had socialist programs in this country since before the current president was born.
It's nice to have a reasonable man in the White House again considering what we had to endure for the past 8 years.
3 and a half years, at least to go.

When Republicans proposed merely that SS checks increase by a smaller amount than was automatic under existing legislation, they were accused of robbing the elderly and REDUCING SS checks.

Now the filth are going to implement real dollar reductions, and strangely it's ok. Business as usual. Nothing to see...move along.-

By law, Social Security benefits cannot go down. Nevertheless, monthly payments would drop for millions of people in the Medicare prescription drug program because the premiums, which often are deducted from Social Security payments, are scheduled to go up slightly.
More than 32 million people are in the Medicare prescription drug program. Average monthly premiums are set to go from $28 this year to $30 next year, though they vary by plan. About 6 million people in the program have premiums deducted from their monthly Social Security payments.
So it's not a decrease in SS benifits but rather an increase in the Medicare Prescription drug program. Who pass that drug program that didn't include SS protection?????

Obama has already said we are out of money, yet he spends spends spends, how is that hope and change working out for ya? Stop the health care bill, the cap and trade bill and the Value Added Tax he is contemplating, once he is voted out in three years we can get back on our feet. Hang on til then and oppose everything he tries to do to impoverish the entire country. What a putz!

The process of increasing SS checks using cost of living increases has been in place. Can't blame Obama for this but being the one in charge will get him blamed nonetheless.

Odds are, he and the congress (both parties) will probably send out some checks to the seniors to bribe them into not voting them out next year.-

Do you suppose Congress will get their AUTOMATIC pay increases? Do you think they could provide those on fixed incomes with a small increase in SS (since their premiums for Medicare will be going up, along with all their necessities), instead of sending billions to Brazil so they can drill for the oil that Americans are not allowed to do, because of environmental concerns. Don't understand the logic in that. Does the global environment care if the drilling is done in Brazil, versus in America? Don't think so.

Lots of mixed feelings. Social Security is indexed annually according to the change in the CPI. The CPI is theoretically developed using a typical "market basket" of goods and services. Being the average it is, it is sort of accurate for some; but never exactly accurate for anybody, except by chance. Depending what any individual's market basket is, the CPI adjustment can put any individual ahead of or behind the curve of actual cost changes to them in any given year. Think that ultimately you have to follow the rules, even when they break against you. The only way I can see to fit this into existing law is to develop a CPI strictly for the age group receiving Social Security. Not sure that this would be possible or practical.

-Tort reform (cap on punitive damages and lawyer compensation)
Reply
-Access to insurance across state lines (make them compete for your money)
-Clean up the fraud, corruption, and inefficiences in Medicare & Medicaid, Social Security and VA services (iinstead of hiring more Czars, hire competent people to detect and eliminate issues in these programs)
-Provide strict oversight of private insurers so the people are not cheated
-Stop making Americans pay the high price for the R of new medicines, while selling these drugs to other countries at a far lower cost, or giving them away to poorer countries. I am all for helping others, but right now American citizens need help.
These simple and doable steps would considerably lower health care costs but our President and Congress refuse to address them because these steps would enrage many who gain their wealth from the status quo, and are the very people who support re-election of the people in Congress. If they took care of the REAL issues, how would they feather their own nests and keep their cushy jobs? -

Good grief. I can't believe all the Propeller wingnuts who want Social Security to go away are feigning concern about the lack of an increase in payments for 2010.
Reply
Social Security is tied to the CPI.
For Social Security payments to increase, the CPI must increase.
The CPI has decreased.
Ergo, Social Security payments will remain unchanged (as will Medicare Part B premiums.) -

I can't understand how the government is going to justify a zero cost of living.Has any one bought a tomato lately.how about a ten dollar T-bone.I don't understand a part B increase if prices are static.Of course gasoline must be a luxury, and shouldn't counted.Oh well if your high enough in the ivory tower looking down, you only see the little Americans scurry around, some going to their second,or third job, others looking for any kind of work so from up there all is well.Maybe Obama is thinking when all the people are skinny he will spend some of the stimulus on job creation, even,GOD FORBID somebody makes a profit.

The stimulus was a huge scam. If Congress actually read that bunch of pork, they would have known less than 8% of the stimulus was actually for job creation or job preservation. The rest is funding for every left wing nut job project that they couldn't get Congress to pass when the GOP was in control. Don't get me wrong, the GOP should have been held accountable for the uncontrolled spending, there were a lot of Rino projects that should never have been approved. But over all, we were better off before 100% control of the government went to the DNC. The only folks making a profit are the "green" companies. They're getting rich producing expensive under producing wind machines and solar projects. It was all a scam for the lefties in the name of stimulus. The so called stimulus stalled the economy and killed any major spending bill Obama and family will try to push. In 2010, the House and Senate will swing back to the GOP. That is unless Acorn and find some way to create more fraudulent votes again. Let's hope this time, they don't use NFL players from other states or cemetery registrations on line. Hard to cover your trail when you can google the person's name.

For the seniors out there, I'm sorry about this, truly sorry. You're barely able to survive on this and now the powers that be are freezing your benefits. Don't give up hope, there may be some help from local organizations for heating and food subs. Some are church based others are simply charities. Don't be embarrassed, if you need the help ask.

As to 2010. Folks, the White House, Senate and House are in control of the Democrats. I hope you remember they were the ones in control when the wheels came off the wagon. Bush wasn't doing the greatest job but the economy was still moving forward. We're falling fast and the Dems in power can't blame the GOP. We control nothing. Remember 2010!-
