Legality and Morality Can Be Mutually Exclusive »
Posted By btatman22 4 months, 1 week ago in Political OpinionRecently, President Obama urged religious leaders to support his health care plan. He invoked a moral and ethical standard. He stated: “These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation: that is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper. In the wealthiest nation on earth right now, we are neglecting to live up to that call.”

A core American principle is that we do look out for those within our circle -- family, 'true' friends, and neighbors at least to the extent that support is needed against disasters and crime.

The problem arises when government Force is applied to redistribute our lives and property to support the other 299 million about whom we know nothing. For those who cannot grasp this, perhaps my webpage "morality" will clear the minds.-

Obama begins with the wrong premise. In talking about being his brother's keeper, the premise should be that is what one wants to do, perhaps should do, but FORCED to do? I don't think so.

BTW, didn't I read elsewhere Obama has a brother who lives in a cardboard shack?-

Yeah, you can't really legislate morality or altruism. The reason people don't commit more murders has little to do with its being illegal, and the reason women don't have more abortions isn't because it's legally available. To make a real difference, it's smarter to convince people than to compel them.

How about we create a special social security number for the "i me mine" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01UipbZL3ww) crowd, who will not be taxed for benefits and can expect only help from others in their community, and another social security number for the "across the universe" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj-4t9drUlM) crowd, who want to belong to a pool of members they don't know and have never met, whom they will pay taxes to support in a systematic way.

The problem with what Obama stated is that he is fabricating what he says the health care bill is all about. He says that opponents are fabricating what is in the bill. In most cases that is not so. A few cases are off the mark but for the most part the Democrats keep silent and the Republicans have spoken out against the bill. Why are the Democrats silent on the facts of the bill?
Reply
All the town hall meetings that the Democrats had to promote the bill were a total failure. In Tampa near where I live they had a mess and the meeting was by invitation only to "good Democrats" who then became angry. So much for the nasty conservatives orchestrating what happened. -

How about this for morality, examine the one principle you have cons, the one and only principle you live by each day "MAKE THE RICH RICHER".
Reply
You lie and scare senior citizens with shouting slogans dreamed up in yhour billionaire sponsored think tanks, because the only chance you have is to get them to believe your lies, you show up at health care meetings with guns and threats and dark McCarthiestic violence, cause you can't stand with the truth, its always the lie to make the rich richer.
You wouldn't know morality if it slapped you in the face, what a bunch of hypocrites, complaining about their precious insurance monopoly you call freedom.
Morality rule number one, stop the hatred for this country, and stop repeating the lies. Bunch of birthers, deathers, Barbie voters, creationists, white suprema-cyst lickers and now you talk about morality?
You talk about morality like Sanford talks about morality, like the C streeters talk about morality.-

Right. But the largest problem is Obama's refusal to accept the morality of Life and Liberty. Anyone who appreciates that stands on a platform which refutes all virtue in Force and Sacrifice, so would never consider redistribution or collectivism.

What exactly are the lies you are pontificating about, antibrainwasher? And where is the truth you claim your opponents don't "stand with"?

How about actually involving yourself in a debate about the facts about Obamacare? You can start with another Propeller discussion where you ran away from my challenge to you:
http://www.propeller.com/story/2009/08/24/obamacar...
You never presented any facts in that discussion, which linked to a very hard-hitting article; nor did you try to justify your allegations after I challenged them.
The following challenge is especially relevant to your "insurance monopoly" (Blue Cross isnt the only insurer, y'know) claim. I asked you to read:
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/52847
It makes the point that the Obamacare bills no longer allow insurance companies to discriminate against people with unhealthy life styles (like smokers) but must make people with healthy lifestyles pay the same amount as the others. if you think this will actually make health care more affordable on the whole, I'd like to see your reasoning. -

"No one is stopping you from "acting christian"
Reply
The article doesn't say that someone is stopping me from acting Christian. What is does say is that the government can not make me do something Christian by legislating to do so.
And this is a complete reversal of why Obama wanted to reform healthcare to begin with. Originally, it was to control costs to the government. Now, seeing that he is having trouble selling his plan, it's a moral issue.

Obama should really be saying, "we are neglecting to expand the right of government to decide how we are supposed to live up to that call". I contribute a tenth of my take-home pay to charity; with Obamacare,I might not be able to afford to do that any more.
