Sorry to be a wet blanket, but to me "the Lion of the Senate" will always be "the Cowardly Lion of Chappaquiddick".

So, Locky, whom do you respect in public life? This is a serious, i. e., non-baiting, question.

I'd make a comment also, but I don't want to sink to the level of those who made vile comments about Jessie Helms when he died….I just think that he (Kennedy) should have been in prison for murder instead of the Senate….

In reading the comments here, I'm sorry but I don't feel the same way. In fact, I feel nothing with his passing. But then again, I never respect a drunk, a murderer, a liar or a person who covers for a rapist. He's lived on the reputation of his brothers his whole life and was always protected by his father's money.

I grieve for the people he's hurt during his reign in the Senate. For all of the women he's groped during his drunken periods. I grieve for the family of Mary Jo Kopechne who never received the justice they deserved. May he be forced to answer for them now.

R.I.P. Ted. May you rest in peace. Now, on with the people's business. Senate = 59 votes. 5 months until the special election!

Ted Kennedy was a person that took his position serious; whether you agreed with him or not, he gave thoughtful debate. He was a Lion of the era where the American people didn't see running the Republic as a reality show approved by spectators or groupies.

I too have feelings about Chappaquiddick. Far as that go, it was the same to get over the VP blasting a man with a shotgun while under the influence of drugs. That and a president that said he didn't hear about it for 3 days afterward or insist on a meaningful investigation.

I recognize some postings; where those who were conciliatory on a list of highly suspect activities, you are now outraged with the late Ted Kennedy.

I'll accept the call girls than the bathroom ballers.

I don't want to be dishonest and not say that I suspect there is some partisan level promoting abnormal disrespect knowing there is an opening for them to put another repug in the Senate. The depths of depravity, go that deep. Many speaking negatively have a chance to insist that living representatives live up to higher ideals. You can't send Ted Kennedy anywhere now. Your hate to the grave is worthless as well as senseless. I take that back, it is not worthless if it is a political assignation "on a dead man" for political gain.

The Senate record of Ted Kennedy is astounding, and every one of us (including the clowns who bash him) have positive influences in our lives that we can thank him for.
Three hundred of his bills were passed into law. From civil rights, children's health care, funding for AIDS treatment, increased minimum wage, mammography quality standards, educational opportunities, and hundreds of things in between....Ted Kennedy did more for the people of this nation than ANY other person in Congress. And he did it while working WITH republicans. How sad, to lose a man like that.

Isn't it ironic that one of his last acts was to disallow the Governor of MA to appoint a successor to the Senate at a time when government health care is on the table.

People on the way-wacko-right tend to forget the award granted to Kennedy by George Bush.

Am astounded--jaw-droppingly so--that some people on this thread think/feel that one must be religious to be moral.

Shows the degree to which they've been...indoctrinated, to use a politer term.

in what way is this such a "tragic lose" great people die every day, no big parade for my 19 yr old daughter who battled a rare and painful bone marrow disease for 5 years, and with no insurance at 19 she got the greatest care in the world right here in the US, the system works just fine.

Admittedly, Ted Kennedy was not perfect, but if you can live 77 years without making a major mistake, you'll go down in history. The big difference is that there are things that he did that will go down in history. Great things that affected millions of lives and generations to come. Walk a mile in his shoes and hope you do as well.

Amazing, what a display of gutter level slander and classless, graceless, blatant hatred displayed by the faux noise crowd of hatemongering cons.

Your hero John McCain dropped napalm on daycares, burning hundreds of children alive, your hero Chickenhawk Cheney ordered 4500 soldiers to their death, and permanently injured 30,000 more for a neocon lie and for war profiteering. You cons worship the lying quitting caribu barbie, and the racist moron Joe the Plumber.

Speaking ill of the dead, we would expect nothing less from the rats on the burning, sinking ship, party of white suprema-cyst licking cons.
