Ted Kennedy Dies of Brain Cancer at Age 77 - ABC News »
Posted By y_soitenly 3 months ago in Political NewsSen. Ted Kennedy has died of cancer at age 77. Kennedy, the 'liberal lion' of the Senate, is the youngest brother of the late President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. Edward M. Kennedy, known by his nickname Ted, fought for national health care, union and workers' rights, and many liberal causes during a political career that spanned over 45 years in the Senate. Kennedy's life was not without controversy. Though he ran for president in 1980, hoping to deny President Jimmy Carter the Democratic nomination, Kennedy never overcame the Chappaquiddick scandal, a car accident in which Mary Jo Kopchene was killed. Ted Kennedy survived several brushes with death including a plane crash, the aforementioned car accident, and a lifelong battle with alcohol. Brain cancer claimed Kennedy's life at age 77.

He's dead! Hurrah! The Marxicrat is dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! May his bad legislation go to Hell with him. He was an alcoholic, philandering, murderer. It's odd that he died at the same time that Jackie O's half-brother is indicted for child molesting. Nothing good comes from the Kennedy clan.

My salute to Ted Kennedy is as follows ...
Reply
.
I was raised in a highly Conservative family ... in a highly Conservative neighborhood ... in a highly Conservative city ... in a highly Conservative county.
One of my siblings was a member of the John Birch Society.
She drilled her children to have antagonism and ridicule for Democrats in general ... and Ted Kennedy in particular.
And yet, when my sister's son went to Washington DC to work for a Republican Senator ... he called Ted Kennedy the most prepared, most thorough, most knowledgeable, most effective ... and one of the most likable people in the Senate.
To be able to generate respect from opponents is a wonderful thing.

Do you know where either of them are ?
We do not know, what he came to in his final days. Or the forgiveness that was given to him, or Mary Jo.
I only know that God is merciful to those who ask with a right spirit and heart.
I do not know if either of them asked for it.
Do you ?? -

RIP Senator Kennedy, You were not a perfect man, who is? What matters is, throughout your life, you struggled against the darker demons of your nature to attempt to help as many others as you could. Of those many struggles, I understand your final one the best.

Statement from President Obama on Kennedy's death;
Reply
For five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts.
I valued his wise counsel in the Senate, where, regardless of the swirl of events, he always had time for a new colleague. I cherished his confidence and momentous support in my race for the Presidency. And even as he waged a valiant struggle with a mortal illness, I've profited as President from his encouragement and wisdom.
An important chapter in our history has come to an end. Our country has lost a great leader, who picked up the torch of his fallen brothers and became the greatest United States Senator of our time. -

I got to this expecting to find a thread full of negative and hateful comments. As of this writing, with only a couple of exceptions, I am pleasantly surprised.

Senator Kennedy was an outstanding senator. A voice for the voiceless. And he was a tireless advocate for a myriad of causes I believe in.
I pray we find another "liberal lion." His are huge shoes to fill.
RIP, Senator. -

I want to say RIP Ted and ask that those that feel the need to talk ill of him to refrain from doing so. Talking ill of the dead because of partisan political views is in bad taste.
Reply
I can see talking about a Hitler, Stalin or Mao, but not someone because of politics in general.-

You mean conservatives should refrain from addressing Kennedy's passing the way liberals responded (read: never held back for a second) when Reagan died?

No...Ted wasn't perfect, NOBODY is, he did however earn great respect with the many good things he did do, he will be missed, he was a real entity in politics.

On the contrary, many of them serve quite well; they're simply not in the spotlight.

One doesn't need to be a household name to make a difference and many Kennedys seem happy to assist quietly from the sidelines.
Both approaches can lead to good things. -

RIP Senator Kennedy. Your many good deeds should be applauded. My condolences for your family. It appears, however, that your familial dynasty has ended with you. Such a shame that the younger Kennedy's don't share your zest for public service.

Chappaquiddick happened 40 years ago. Now what he did WAS wrong, but he pled guilty and received a suspended sentence. Now that certainly isn't enough, ...but then, I believe that the incident haunted him the rest of his life..... The mind can be a worse prison than the actual bars for some people.
Reply
Don't misunderstand me. I am not making excuses....but I DO think that Senator Kennedy has been an outstanding senator, just the same...
And anyway (this is addressed to those who INSIST on being hateful today), the senator died of brain cancer. It took 15 months from the date of his diagnosis. I don't know how many of you have been affected by a loved one dying of brain cancer, but it is a slow and debilitating death. ....so you got what you wanted....Senator Kennedy died of an incurable disease. I hope your black hearts find some relief in that knowledge..... -

Nice to know that there are some on the Right like jimdozer here that have at least some respect for the dead and doesn't let difference in party affiliations affect they're thinking of displaying sympathy for the dead. Unlike "Righteous self-appointed judgmental God-wannabees like Dropkickalib,Locy12,Cherev, etc.etc, and the rest of the ill-natured, bad ilk giving conservatism a bad rep, and a bad name.

I ask that you kind members forgive them! It's not their fault that they weren't the pick of the litter when they were born and have such a callous attitude towards the dead. Ted wasn't perfect but give the man his respects, he was after all, a man with the same flaws and shortcomings as you and I.
Republican politicians aren't any better when it comes to perfect pristine character. They also have a lot of peccadillo's in their day-to-day routine in the nation's capitol. It's also NOT up to you,me, or anybody else in this physical plane to cast judgment upon the dead.
With that said RIP Ted Kennedy.
To you party blind Repubs; show some class, and echo the same sentiment for once!
