Posted By scott4261 3 months, 1 week ago in Arts & Entertainment"Honky Tonk Women" is a 1969 hit song by The Rolling Stones. Released as a single on 4 July 1969 in the UK and a week later in the US, it topped the charts in both nations.
Two versions of the song were recorded by the band: the familiar hit which appeared on the 45 single and their collection of late 1960s singles, Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2) ; and a honky-tonk version entitled "Country Honk" with slightly different lyrics, which appeared on Let it Bleed.
"You Can't Always Get What You Want" was the single's B-side.

This song was #1 40 years ago. It is one of the first rock hits I can remember hearing when it was actually a hit on the radio (I was eight!) A huge hit in the summer of 1969. It was the Stones to get us through the summer while we waited for the Beatles to release Abby Road. It was a magical time in music.

Nice one Scott. This was ground-breaking in its own way. The fusion of rock "sound" into country music themes was still a long ways off when this hit the air. And "country rock" like Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, and Poco never was quite as rocky.
