'Win One for Teddy,' Say Dems Pushing for Health Reform »
Posted By Newperson 3 months, 2 weeks ago in Political NewsDemocrats are hoping that the memory of Sen. Ted Kennedy will revive the Democratic Party's flagging push for health care reform."You've heard of 'win one for the Gipper'? There is going to be an atmosphere of 'win one for Teddy,'" Ralph G. Neas, the CEO of the liberal National Coalition on Health Care, told ABC News.
Democrats are hoping that Kennedy's influence in death may be even stronger than it was when he was alive as they push for President Obama's top domestic priority. Democratic officials hope that invoking Kennedy's passion for the issue will counter slippage in support for heatlh care reform. The idea of naming the legislation for Kennedy has been quietly circulating for months but was given a new push today by Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., the only person who served with Kennedy for all his 47 years in the Senate. "In his honor and as a tribute to his commitment to his ideals, let us stop the shouting and name calling and have a civilized debate on health care reform which I hope, when legislation has been signed into law, will bear his name for his commitment to insuring the health of every American,"

It would be a great testament to a fine man,to name this legislation after him.Even more important,it would partially conclude a battle, that Ted Kennedy fought his whole political life.I think making sure that healthcare was available to every American, based on need and not bank balance, would be a fine way to send him onward.

Let's bury the stupidity of the we against them bullcrap.
Let us see where those against it, can show why healthcare for all is really a bad idea, without all the rhetoric.
Let us see where those for healthcare for all can show why healthcare for all is feasible, without all the rhetoric.
But most importantly to me, let us all examine what we want and why ??
If it is for our own profit alone, we are doing it for the wrong reasons.
Peace. -

I agree that his death shouldn't be used as a political tactic either.

It clearly needs to be done one way or another, though. Medical insurance has skyrocketed and is eating up more and more of people's disposable income and more people are going without it. It is clearly unsustainable without correction, and I believe the insurance companies are smart enough to see that as well.
Reps seem to think that the higher the taxes, the less the receipts in the long run. Well guess what? It definitely will work that way with insurance premiums. -

--Exit question: How much of a bounce will The One get from the “Do it for Teddy!” push on health care? He’s delivering one of the eulogies at Friday’s ubiquitously televised memorial service so he’s bound to pick up some residual goodwill points. But enough to rebound on ObamaCare? Democrat Mary Landrieu told a crowd at lunch yesterday — after the news about Kennedy had broken — that she probably won’t vote for a public option. If Camelot can’t get the Blue Dogs to hedge on the very day of Kennedy’s passing, how much influence will it have really?-- -

Georgia Girl,I am from the UK and am typing this from London.Ted Kennedy was very interested in the UK's and Canadian healthcare systems. Here it is "public policy"and based on need and not bank balance. The healthcare reforms being talked of by President Obama, will attempt to improve the system so that all American have healthcare.Unfortunately the profit element will still be there, which is cash that should go on peoples health and not shareholders wealth. It is a step forward, having nearly 50 million people, with only the emergency room for healthcare,is a blot on the reputation of your fine country. However, expanding Medicare for all people and not just the over 65's,is the solution. To consider health a commodity to make profit on,is ugly and immoral.
Reply
I hope America gets a "Ted Kennedy Universal healthcare System",run by government,or "not for profit" companies, very soon.So poor folks, get decent healthcare too!!-

Approximately 145 million American workers contribute 3% of their salaries to fund 44 million seniors on Medicare. In spite of this 3.5 - 1 ratio of contributors, Medicare is in deep trouble. So now, the plan is to take 313 billion away from Medicare to pay for the new program. That certainly makes sense doesn't it.
Reply
Now you want to add those 145 million Americans to Medicare. The contribution of all of these has to increase in a big way to fund it.
Where is the savings to come from? How will it cost less? It can't, but you will be REQUIRED to pay into it; you will no longer have a choice.
This can only lead to rationalizing services and extending wait times for all procedures and with NO recourse against government. It will destroy the futures of millions of young Americans who will never be able to accomplish the lifestyles of their parents.

Ya know, I just wonder ???
Reply
I wonder how much money is worth a persons life or death ??
I wonder how much profit, one takes while; allowing children to die, parents to die, grandparents to die... ???
I wonder how, when one who is against helping others, because of the cost to them ??? They will face God and say. Well I did what I had to do to protect my profits, or I didn't want the Government to control my healthcare, I didn't care what somebody else needed, I got mine they should pay for theirs,
I didn't care because the Democrats wanted it, or I didn't care because the Republicans didn't want it...
Do ya really think that God, who allowed His Son Jesus Christ to be sacrificed for all of our sins, and allowed Him to beaten so that by His stripes we are healed.
Will understand and approve of the greed and self serving interests of those who for reasons of their own refuse to help others ???
Now there will be some who say, God helps those who help themselves. No actually God helps those, who can't help themselves.
God helps those who ask for His help and accept His way not theirs.
I think it is time we all stop asking what is in it for me, and start asking how can I help to meet others needs. While still providing for my family ???
That would mean that we would actually realize that others are worth our efforts to help them.-

Well since you don't want the truth I can't answer ya !!
But if people had health care, it would free up more money for investments in building hospitals and educating doctors and nurses.
There hospitals closing all over the place, because of the lack of peoples ability to pay the bills.
But hey you are so smart, you already know what answer you want to hear.
So you go ahead and answer your self.

I guess by now you all know how I feel about healthcare reform. It's very sad that some people are not willing to even try to think about the ones that need this. I like many of you have insurance. But there are so many out there that don't. I have heard people say no one can be denied medical treatment. Well you just spend a few minutes at a drs. office and see how many see a dr. that have no money or ins. O yeah you can go to the emergency room. They will put a bandage on you and tell you to go see your private dr.
Reply
So you see it's a no win for some people. They are alone with no where to turn.
Americans need healthcare and it's time to start thinking of others besides yourself.-

Mad bad and dangerous to know? Look it up you have famous name.
Your problem is that the monies you object to bring spent on healthcare have already been spent on propping up capitalism on Wall St. What to do? Look after your fellow citizens that's what. You are the richest country on the planet and you have one of the worst healthcare systems. Time to rectify that.-

EXACTLY!. We're broke and in debt up to our eyeballs. You must be one of those rocket surgeons or brain scientists.
"You are the richest country on the planet and you have one of the worst healthcare systems."
The first part is true and the second part is a common myth. The US has some of the most advanced healthcare in the world because we are rich. Canadians routinely come to America to receive more timely healthcare than they can at home. -

You may be rich and able to afford your health insurance but what of the rest? Pull the ladder up, I'm OK seems to be your thinking.
BTW when the NHS started in 1948 we had rich Americans arriving in the UK for treatment for free, cheeky bathbuns. It was years before it was stopped. That's the rich for you.

Both the incoming and outgoing Health Ministers in Canada say their system is imploding with millions either waiting up to a year for sugery or to see a specialist to get on the list for sugery.
Reply
They have plenty of doctors and said "Rationing" is the sole cause of this.
They also said that costs have "skyrocketed" under the government run health program.
The UK is now bankrupt from spending far too much money and Socializing heath care..and they have the same waiting lists and rationing problems that all government run health care systems do. -

My Fellow Americans: I have the Solution to all the Problems.
Reply
First: Let's name this health care farce after Mr. America the one an only Teddy Bear Kennedy. When it goes down the tubes, because Americans are starting to figure out the Obama Cons, than that will signify just what type of American Hero he was.
All week his Idolization has been taking place. The Main Man in Government. The man that cheated in College. The man that let a poor helpless woman suffocate in his car while he swam away. That's right not drown but suffocate. The man that lied his tail off until he had no choice. The Man that got his Puke nephew off for his Drunk Driving Event. Let's keep worshiping this Low Life because he was a Damocrat. He won't be Missed.
Health Care, we can fix that, We the tax payers that actually work, and will be the ones to pay for any Bill the Obama Socialist Regime gets passed, can just quit working all together. Hey! the government will take care of us all. They'll just print more money. The don't need us. We will just live off the government. We can all quit. Obama will take care of everyone. Everyone in the United States should just quit their jobs. Hey! we working Conservatives support the country now so I think we should just all quit working. Who's with Me? Come on Working Democrats let's become Bipartisan and quit working together.
Insurance, Who needs it. Doctors, who needs them. Employers, were done with them. Taxes, not for us. Freedom, overrated anyway. Food, we'll live on Love. National Defense, we will just keep apologizing and be forgiven. Transportation, we will just use bicycles. Support Children, we'll just abort them. Sick Grandparents, we'll just pull the plug. Money, we will have Government Programs to get us through. Any necessities, we will steal from the rich, congressmen and congresswomen, movie stars, singers, sports athletes. We will be living Big.
Life will be just like Obama has Envisioned it. The Real American-

Forced vaccinations, quarantine camps, health care interrogations and mandatory “decontaminations”
Reply
Mike Adams
Natural News
August 28, 2009
The United States of America is devolving into medical fascism and Massachusetts is leading the way with the passage of a new bill, the “Pandemic Response Bill” 2028, reportedly just passed by the MA state Senate and now awaiting approval in the House.
This bill suspends virtually all Constitutional rights of Massachusetts citizens and forces anyone “suspected” of being infected to submit to interrogations, “decontaminations” and vaccines.
The entire population of the USA is now but one pen stroke away from being subjected to mandatory swine flu vaccinations at gunpoint.
It’s also sets fines up to $1,000 per day for anyone who refuses to submit to quarantines, vaccinations, decontamination efforts or to follow any other verbal order by virtually any state-licensed law enforcement or medical personnel.
Here’s some of the subsections contained in the bill:
(Violation of 4th Amendment: Illegal search and seizure)
(Government price controls)
“Involuntary Transportation” (also known as kidnapping)
$1,000 / day in fines
Arrest for refusal to be “decontaminated”
Interrogation
Forced isolation and quarantine

CDC Uses Social Sites to Get Out Vaccine Propaganda
Reply
Matthew Bigg
Reuters
August 28, 2009
U.S. health authorities are turning to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter in a bid to prepare people to be vaccinated against the pandemic H1N1 virus.
But efforts to distribute accurate information about the dangers of swine flu and the importance of vaccination are hampered by the sheer complexity of the message that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aims to convey.
For a start, the vaccine will not be ready for widespread distribution until mid-October, after the traditional flu season has begun.
The U.S. government hopes to target around 50 percent of the population for vaccination, focusing on key groups including pregnant women and healthcare workers............

Then, I see those dropping this article that haven't even commented here and realize that there is a huge push to drown out opposing voices. Isn't this similar to the tactics being used at town hall meetings?!
I think what we're experiencing is a "Domestic Surge" by the Republicans. I guess they think it worked so well in Iraq they'd try it at home.
And, look at their content. No references to any facts...just pure oped pieces trying to confuse and intimidate...sound familiar?!
Where's MeaJen30's outrage at all these claims with no citations backing them up? I've seen plenty of disingenuous pleas for citations from those who oppose her view!
These bloggers are nothing but Brown Shirts marching against freedom while claiming to be patriots and wrapping themselves in the American Flag as a shield. They spew hateful diatribes and offer nothing of any real value.-
