Current medical professionals are speculating that the flu of 1957 may have given some an immunity to the bad flu.

it's nothing against you. i totally understand that you would like to spread the news for something potentially dangerous.

but, as you may have noticed, i come from a different train of thought.
after doing a _lot_ of reading on SARS, swine flu, and other stories of influenza, then I can say with certainty that this is an fear mongering operation designed to get the populace to
A) pass emergency legislation that further strips away our liberties, perhaps
or, at the very least,
B) it supports the thesis that government is the only thing that can save us (via, dangerous vaccines) so, it is disempowering
the fear-based absurdity that a dangerous new influenza can't be fought off by our immune system's natural defenses merely stirs everyone into a frenzy.
it's like the OJ trial. or Britney spears. But scarier and political motivated.

Sorry, I didn't read the story just the heading and the comments posted so far. Some of the comments that I read leaves me thinking that some people have no regard for others in society, the more people who become infected with any virus increases the chance that the virus will mutate and that could lead to more extreme illness and this seems to be the case presented in the heading. When I read comments that go back to individual rights in regards to health issues it leaves me wondering if these same people are opposed to the reporting of communicable diseases as well since no one needs to know that the may be a carrier of something like a STD, or Rubella or a host of other diseases.

I didn't mean to get off topic but the rights of the individual seem to take second place when compared to the protection of society, this is one of the reasons for law and order.
I have to go to work but will read the story later and check back in.-

Unfortunately this is not the prevailing ideology in America where the individual takes precedence over the community. People in America revel in the ability to save themselves at whatever cost to the public follows. God forbid you should ask an individual to make a small sacrifice for the betterment of all!
While I'd never agree to forced immunization and such, there's certainly something to be said for the importance of individual sacrifice for community.
