This is just a sample! Rush Limbaugh started in on Wednesday's show:

...barely 12 hours after Senator Kennedy's death! As far as I'm concerned, Rush does nothing but spew poison into the atmosphere.
Ya know, I gave due respect when his god, Ronald Reagan, died. But I'll be goddamned if I shed a tear when that drug-addled lard-ass drops dead! -

They're terribly afraid that Kennedy's death will aid passage of health care reform since it was his dream. So the GOP will destroy that dream by politicizing Kennedy's funeral.
Reply
Will the Democrats preemptively fight back, will they blow the Republicans out of the water on this one? Or will we all sit back and scratch our heads in a week and say "gosh, how did we lose that one?" Paul Wellstone II - where the GOP accuses of us doing what they're actually doing, and we get the blame. Let's not forget - we still have Hitler references and gun-toting GOP constituents out there who have yet to be fully taken advantage of by the Democrats. What do I mean? Well imagine had the top progressive bloggers, during a debate on key legislation, published photos of George Bush as Hitler. Do you think the Republicans would come up with all sorts of great ideas on how to bash us and, even better, use us to destroy Democrats? There'd be a resolution condemning us on the floor of the US House and Senate faster than you can sing "proud to be an American."
What's to believe that things will be any different when the GOP tries to spin Ted Kennedy's death? We have taught the Republicans that nothing is too low, and that the dirtier they get the more we flinch. Unless the Democrats, and the White House, figure out how to stop this cycle, it's just going to get worse and worse. -

I'm not really sure what is happening on Propeller- but I'm a little concerned with a rumor that people are being banned from this site for political articles they post. (Yesterday I read of post where Eagle_Eye mentions something about lizbett being banned again) While I am all for getting rid of people who are spamming or threatening others, I hope this site isn't censoring viewpoints of its members.

Why is it that anyone who disagrees with you "has a problem with free speech" instead of simply practicing their own by disagreeing with you? And no, I don't mean you specifically, but in this case Rush Limbaugh. Why, when someone says he's nothing but a blowhard and hate monger and hypocrite and liar and............why does that mean we are against free speech?
Reply
What you seem to fail to realize is that freedom of speech goes both ways. You want your freedom to spit venom, but when someone calls you on it that is free speech too. Or didn't you honestly realize that? -

Nope. It's people like you who have the problem. You've cheapened the intentions of the very men who gave you freedom, and turned free speech into a disgusting display of lies, hate, and vile slander. -

Here's freedom of speech. You are an idiot. Now, you have the right to disagree with with me and express yourself by commenting back. That's freedom of speech.
However, freedom of speech should not be confused with intelligent discourse or facts.
By you starting off your comment with "You libs" it becomes apparent that you are trying to convey something you feel is known only to you and your group, but not realized by those with opposing or alternative views.
Your lack of decorum and attitude show either a youthful lack of experience in social settings or a lack of education...possibly both. Now, it is rude of me to point this out to you, but that's my freedom of speech working again.
Oh, and education and experience are more than a degree and/or traveling outside the state you were born in. It is an abstract understanding which leads to wisdom and intelligence.-

It's too bad that more of the conservative base listen to Rush Limbaugh than to their own senators like Orrin Hatch and John McCain, who both gave remarkable speeches last night in honor of their friend (yes, I said friend) Ted Kennedy. I really wish the American populous (both conservative AND liberal alike) would take notice and see for themselves that political differences do NOT equate to personal hatred on the hill the way it seems to in the heartland.
Reply
I will say I am not surprised by the flood of venom being spewed, but it doesn't make it any less disheartening to witness. The bottom line is, whether you agreed with Kennedy or not, he was a true statesman and earned the praise he now receiving. Did he make mistakes in his life? No doubt. But when you look at the whole of his life, you see a man devoted to his country and committed to leaving it a better place...and in that he succeeded.
All the hate and venom won't change the legacy.. -

Reply
First off, IMO, lending Kennedy's name to the bill will only help bolster the left that already are on-board.
I think a few buildings and a statue would be more appropriate. Attaching the name of one man to something that will be 1/6 of the nation's economy seems to me to be a bit overboard and lending his name to it when it's not being received well to date seems like pimping the cause by name-dropping the bill (IMO). What if the bill is a complete disaster? Does the left really want one of their Stalwarts names attached to a bill that may be used against their party in the future? Think about the unintended consequence for once guys.
Moderates and those on the right that are already against it (and many on the fence) will tend to be more against it or change to the against it by POLITICIZING the bill by placing the name of one of the most Liberal folks in DC on it.
The left is urging OBAMA to politicize the funeral by bringing it up and attaching Kennedy's name to the bill (hopefully to give it the gravitas of the Kenny name to pass).
Yet we are being told that the right is politicizing Kennedy's death? It's laughable to the max.
I will say, that though I never was a fan of Ted, I have to admit that Health Care reform is something he has championed for 40 years now.
In fact, Ted laminated that he made a mistake when he took the tact of ALL or nothing back when NIXON offered a way to start Health Care reform back in the day and did not take the offer.
Kennedy in the end was a proud liberal and he fought as hard for his side of the political spectrum as any have on the hill.
He used His powerful namesake and his brother's legacies as best he could to try and make his notion of what he thought the country should be a reality.
He failed on some things and he succeeded on some, but you have to give him his due, he believed in his cause and worked tirelessly on his goal (whether you liked his goals or not).
Setting his personal life aside, one can only conclude that he was a true politician that believed in his cause.
RIP Ted
Rush you should be ashamed.-

Raises an interesting question, de mortuis nil nisi bonum vs honest but not nice eulogies for the dead.
Reply
Take a position and be consistent.
For myself, I think "speak nothing but good of the dead" is a fairly vapid position, because we have some real sons of b!tches that have taken the dirt nap and we have a duty to the truth.
That being said, too bad Kennedy's dead. He took a trip we all have to take and which few of us want to. He probably loved his wife, and his kids, and his dog. And they probably loved him too.
At the same time, he was born into good fortune, and I doubt he ever had dirt beneath his nails. He was an elite who made a career out of inventing rules which the rest of us must live by.
So I don't identify with him, much, and can't say he's my hero.
But then, neither is Limbaugh.-

While I don't miss your point, I'm left with a different feeling about Ted Kennedy. So often, public figures are inflated in death and stories are told to make them greater than they ever were. Not so today. This is the first time in my 40+ year memory that it wasn't the case. Ted Kennedy really was the man they are eulogizing today. He really was someone who had the utmost respect of his colleagues, even those diametrically opposed to his politics. He really was the man who was first to call or show up on the doorstep of any friend in need, regardless of the politics they clung to. He really was someone who never carried a grudge or took political fights to a personal level where feelings got hurt. He really was someone who left the world he occupied a better place through his life's work. He really was the statesman who is being celebrated today.
Reply
Nothing similar could be said when Reagan died. Or when Ford died. Or Nixon. Or in the future when Clinton or Bush die. They all get their obligatory accolades in death, but what is missing are the personal stories of how they actually DID things, small or big, to earn the true admiration and respect of those around them. That's what sets Ted Kennedy apart from the rest. Regardless of his political ideals and how you feel about them, it can't be denied that his life, taken as a whole, was a remarkable one.
That is not to say mistakes weren't made or that history won't include a number of humiliations, but the rest of his life's work earns him a wake unmarred by hatred. His political adversaries all recognize this and have called for it. I really wonder why the rest of the country can't follow suit. Leave the scandals for the history books and let those who loved him celebrate the redemptive life he lived in his later years.

Chip: "You libs have a real problem with that "freedom of speech" thing don't you?...."

But the issue isn't objecting to L.'s right to say what he does, but to the content of that speech. There is a difference.
Also, I've never quite understood the "don't speak ill of the dead" dictum, as if the litmus for fairness in such cases is whether the person can defend him- or herself against possible slurs.
Pieties about death abound, and are, in my opinion, a function of its sentimentalization. You know, dead is dead. -

STUPID !!!!!!
Now how any self respecting person could listen to that and not get that Rush is a racist, people hating, extreme right wing snob, with an obvious mental problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is beyond me !!!!
He genuflects to Reagan, which in itself is enough for me to know how evil Reagan really was. He constantly demonizes, any who are not like him !!!!!
So Reagan must have been like him, they were probably friends !!!
His complete lack of any moral character is laughable, his transparent lack of any backbone, visible to any who listen to him whine about the "liberals", while touting the fear and the stupidity of the "conservative party" as he sees it !!!!
Ahhhhh !!!! To have him in the boonies for a month and show him just what war is really like, what being a man really is about, learning that politics, race, wealth, or any other social yardtick used to measure a person is really a pathetic way to hide the lack of ones wisdom.
The real winners in this world know it is not about what a person looks like, or how much money they have, or even what political stance they take. The real winnners know it is all about loving your fellow man enough, to want to make sure they have an opportunity to have a decent life.
Now if that is to liberal for ya !!!! Go back and play in your womb room where mommy makes everything safe for ya !!!! -

Although Senator Kennedy was not on the same page as my political philosophy, he deserves credit for sticking to his own. He was a good "father" figure to many, and not just within his won family. He practiced what he preached - being a mentor to underprivilleged children, reading at urban elementary schools, and fighting hard for equal treatment for all. His family, friends, and colleagues had nothing but respect for this man. Respect is something earned, and I think Senator Kennedy earned it. That is what people should say about Senator Kennedy, that he was a respected man. -

Beck, Limbaugh, Obama and Free Speech

In less than two minutes, the conversation veers into predictable left versus right territory.
Although Obama and crew are indeed going after talk radio, they are not Venezuelan revolutionary Marxists, as Beck and Limbaugh would have us believe — true Marxists usually don’t work for the bankers.
Beck and Limbaugh have nothing to worry about.
They work for large corporations that will obligingly pay Obama’s “diversity” and “community” tax in order to stay on the air.
It will be smaller patriot radio networks that take the hit...

Speaking of hate speech, I'd like to get an opinion or two from a few liberal-minded folks about this audio from an L.A. Dem Congresswoman:
Reply
In less than 3 minutes, she:
1. Says that people who oppose ObamaCare are "spreading fear and they're trying to see that the first president who looks like me -- fails.". (race baiting)
2. Says the U.S. elected "someone from Kenya and Kansas".
3. Praises Fidel Castro as one of "the of the brightest leaders" she has ever met.
4. Praises Che Guevara who "kicked out the wealthy people" in Cuba.
I'll go first... I think the sheer arrogance with which liberals like this are promoting these types of radical views (some might say anti-American, certainly anti-capitalist) in town halls when they know they are being recorded is shocking.
Listen and comment please:
http://www.breitbart.tv/la-rep-obamacare-opponents...
P.S.: not to be too demanding, but if you could restrain from calling me names and/or bringing up Bush, Limbaugh, Beck etc and just defend her comments with your true feelings/thoughts about what she said that would be super. Thx in advance.-

First of all, it would be helpful if we knew the entire context of the speech. It sounded as though she was talking in sound bites that were picked to suit the video.
Reply
Second, it was sometimes unclear what she was talking about, especially about the "someone from Kenya and Kansas" quotes.
Third, her opinion of Castro and Guevara are her opinions and as long as she makes them public, her constituents can do something about it if they are so inclined to do.
Finally, as long as you don't call me names, I will treat you with respect. Unfortunately you didn't seem to last too long before you began to spout off. I guess that is part of the "arrogance" of the conservatives. -

I've watched both the Limbaugh video, which gives an audio excerpt of comments made about Ted Kennedy (with reference to his drinking), an Obama memo (unsubstantiated), and union thugs basically being imported for Kennedy's procession, and Rep. Diane Watson [D] comments about "those opposing ObamaCare."
Limbaugh is making a specific and personal attack in an obnoxiously hateful and distasteful manner. If this is not obvious then no further discussion is necessary nor would it be productive.
Watson is making a generalization on those who oppose ObamaCare as being racists, which I don't agree with as not all Republicans are racist...just most of them.
Her statement about "...elect[ing] 'someone from Kenya and Kansas'" is merely pointing out Obama's parentage.
I have heard interviews on the History Channel that make the same claim as Watson on the intelligence of Fidel and she didn't praise Che for throwing out the rich, but merely pointed out the fact of what he did in his revolution and how Fidel came to power.
Therefore, the only thing that is possibly inflammatory is the comment alluding to racism. The other statements are only inflammatory if you want them to be. -
