This is very disturbing on many levels.

The age group that is perpetuating violence against homeless people are 18-25 yr old white males. One report I read said that they were drug dealers. I don't buy the drug dealer excuse.
In Mpls/St. Paul our police departments have taken to checking in on the homeless nightly. Making sure they're safe, have a blanket, when it's blow zero driving them to a shelter, plus other things. Things other than arresting them. By doing this it has helped bridge the gap somewhat. There is still a distrust that goes both ways, but when a homeless person witnesses a crime against a friend of theirs they'll remember that officer so and so may be able to do something about it.
I find it sickening that the videos are being sold, the excuses made to justify their actions, and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that a vet/s are in some of these videos. -

$ and Boredom. Even then I have a hard time with it. Because of my job I've gotten to read about the murders of homeless men and women, attacks rising etc. Some people, on purpose, go looking for them to attack them. It boggles the mind.

What boggles my mind is that those that are doing the attacking have been lucky in away so far. Lucky that they've been able to attack those that are mentally challenged, older, or so addicted they can't fight back. They haven't met the vet who isn't strung out or high, just homeless due to lack of resources. Or the ex con. In Mpls some of top criminals are extremely violent when using.
Our attitudes have to change regarding the homeless.
