"For example, a 11-12 Watt compact fluorescent lamp would be the equivalent of a 60 Watt incandescent, which is not true. The light output of 15W compact fluorescent lamp is slightly more than the light output from a 60W incandescent."
OK. get past it. go ahead and buy the 15W CFL upgrade bulb rather than the 60W incandescent. its still a 75% reduction in power consumption and greater light.
and why no comparison to LEDs? they put out a 'truer' light and are yet more efficient.-

So please explain to me the "huge" advantage the CFL's offer over conventional bulbs. Show me where the savings will be.

First, explain the new plants that had to be built in China, India and Malaysia because we couldn't build them here in the USA. Explain to me your plan to properly recycle them safely. There is a great deal of mercury out there now because of these things. Explain to me what or how your program works. More importantly, taking into account the energy it took to build the new plants, the tooling that had to be created and the more energy it takes to build the CLF, please show your math on how this actually saves money and reduces the "evil" carbon footprint. It actually doesn't but please use the GE formula. Call me a racist or evil conservative. This is all a scam from big business that created a product that nobody wanted. Where do you think global warming came from?
As to the LED's, we have them in my offices and lab. I've had mixed comments. They're preferred over the CFL's but the light still isn't as, I don't know, "refined" as conventional bulbs. Also, we've had a terrible time with dimming systems. The bulbs are designed to do that but we've had issues. Once solved, service life will be great.

I don't think CFLs will be the only light bulb available. Hold on to your horses because the LED lightbulb is on the way. Saves more energy the the CFL, lasts longer and is less polluting.

I've been using CFLs for about 10 years and find them superior to regular light bulbs. There is the valid concern that not everyone recycles them when they finally burn out. I do recycle mine.
